In this article, the author describes all about Coal Carbonization. He discusses the various steps of this carbonization process
Coal Carbonization is a process of transforming the organic materials into various carbon forms. The carbon residue can be obtained through the process of pyrolysis or destruction of organic substances through distillation. It can further be derived through the production of carbonaceous, liquid and gaseous products. The coke producing process of coal carbonization is normally applicable in iron and steel industry. This makes it a source of domestic fuel which is smokeless. Only a few of these coals can be used to produce metallurgical cokes. Most of these coals are bituminous by nature but all bituminous coal are not caking coals.

Those primary forms of coking coals are usually expensive and are not easily available nationally. It is often assumed that the rest of the potential coking coals used for making coke offer poor quality in terms of coking. Most of these coke oven are re-built in different parts of the world to surpass the profit amount generated from steel and iron business industry. Most of this profit is insufficient for contributing to the national capital. We will expand our technology to find new raw materials and the best operating conditions for reduced costing. This can only be made possible with a clear understanding of the basic aspects of coking process.

The process of Coke Carbonization. follows certain stringent rules on the coke making process used by various industries. This is done to maximize the output with minimum effort. In case of commercial carbonization, the coals are blended in the blast furnace to derive coke of the highest physical quality and strength. It should be within the accepted limits of chemical equations, reactivity levels at a competitive price. Also the coke should contract enough for easy removal from the oven and the amount of swelling pressure should be somewhat which is acceptable.

Again during such Coal Carbonization, chemical properties or composition of the coke can be limited and brought under desired limits by the process of coal selection. The carbonization and quenching limits should also be under control though the right physical properties of coke are not much defined. There is no clear concept on the whole operation taking place in the furnace. The physical quality or composition of coke is measured in terms of empirical guidelines and parameters necessary for preventing breakage or damage. It usually passes through the conventional strength test like shatter test or drum test.

The strength indexes of such Coal Carbonization process can be substituted by the new coke heating techniques used conventionally. This is necessary for better simulation and reading into the behavior details of coke in the blast furnace. This includes a variety of reaction tests like “solution loss” and other hot strength tests. The main purpose of modem coke is to improve and enhance the existing properties of coke at maximum temperatures. There have been many tests introduced to measure coke reactivity leaving aside the amount of literature on this particular subject.
