Features of Portable Printers
|
Portable printers give people the ability to work completely wirelessly, and from anywhere. The invention of laptops to keep up with our busy lifestyles has necessitated the need for portable printers. The foremost advantage to owning a portable printer is the convenience of being able to print any thing on the go. Portable printers are great for professionals that require large amounts of travel, such as retailers, sales representatives, and vendors. This type of mobility allows these professionals to print receipts, invoices, and information packets for their clients from anywhere, and grow their business.
Printer technology has come along way since the bulky desktop versions requiring complicated set-up and desk space. Although models vary in size and weight, all have features that qualify them as portable printers. Portable printers must be ultra portable, have an alternative supply source other than your traditional wall outlet, and have the capability to produce prints quickly and efficiently. Portable printers currently on the market are small, and lightweight. Comparable to the size of your laptop, portable printers usually weigh between 1 to 5 lbs., and are small enough to fit the same bag as your laptop. One of the most important features of portable printers is that most are battery operated, allowing you to connect to the printer without a traditional electrical source. These battery operated printers work off lithium ion battery technology, like laptops, letting you work wirelessly when your printer is charged. Some portable printers work by receiving electricity through a cigarette lighter in your vehicle. Although you would need a car to power your portable printer, this type of technology is perfect for printing places you don’t have access to an electrical, such as out in field. Most portable printers are also now equipped with bluetooth technology allowing you to connect wirelessly to your printer and print documents using your mobile phone.
It is important to note that the ability to print on the go does not come with out limitations. One huge limitation is that most portable printers are not equipped to print anything larger than an 8” x 11” document. Prints from portable printers are equal in quality to prints from a full sized printer, although it might take a little longer to print considering the capabilities of your portable printer. Another disadvantage if you are a Mac user, is that few portable printers are compatible with Mac computers. Apple Macintosh has remedied this by selling Mac compatible cords for your portable printer that you would be required to purchase separately.
