Power inverters can put in a good use during emergency or power outage. Power inverters can be used together with an extension cord to plug electrical appliances. It is a nifty device that converts a DC or direct current of a battery into AC or alternating current so that it can be use to operate household appliances.

The AC current is commonly use to power up domestic appliances like kitchen appliances, electric tools, radios, computers and cell phone chargers.
Energy stored in a battery is transformed into AC to be put in use in a wide variety of applications. While switching from direct current to high voltage alternating current, most of these convert with a 90% efficiency.

Power Inverters comes in different models that varies in the maximum wattage and size. One thing to consider on picking a power inverter for your use is the capacity options of the power inverter that suits your use.

As these mechanisms normally assume that the source battery is in good condition and fully charged, it is necessary that the engine inside the source vehicle be started at least once an hour for 10-15 minutes to avoid discharge.

There are three basic types of power inverter that is available in the market these are the following:

1.Square Wave – This have become obsolete and not recommended due to the inefficiency, harness and noise it produces.
2.Modified Sine Wave – The most common and perhaps the most popular among the list of inverters. As it can almost run most of the devices.
3.True Sine Wave – produced from the public utility grid system and recommended for sensitive appliances and other electronics.

Identifying the power inverter that suits and meet the requirements of your devices needs a thorough consideration on the following points.

1.The frequency of use, whether it is used daily or occasionally.
2.The amount of devices or the electrical outlets you'll plug into the power inverter. Choose what suits your needs.
3.If the entire load exceed 150 watts. If it exceed, a direct connection to the cell need to be established.
4.If it is planned to used on heavy draw equipment. Large capacity unit and direct connection is required for heavy draw equipments.

Addition of wattage requirement of the appliances that will be plugged into the power inverter is required and it is also recommended to consider the higher output figure as this will ensure the electronics safety. The length of time an inverter functions can be estimated by the amp-hour capacity available.

The actual time for recharging depends on the condition and the age of the battery and the demand of being placed on the equipment operated by the inverter.

Deep Cycle Batteries is advised for 500 watts and larger inverters. It provide several hundred complete charge/discharge cycles. Start the engine every 30 to 60 minutes while it still in use and let it run for 10 minutes to recharge the battery.
