If you are a plus sized woman, you know how it is when you try on clothes. Some clothes look good on your curves and others seem to create extra curves on your body. Fabric can be super clingy or can lay on your body just right. This can make buying plus size clothing a little tricky as you might be proud of your curves but not like to appear bulky rather than curvy. I always have to try on clothes before I purchase them to make sure that I like the way they fit my body shape. I used to pass by some really cute clothes until a friend of mine introduced me to the world of plus-size shape wear and body shapers.
Now, let me start by saying that I am not ashamed of my curves. However, I sometimes find that I need to use a body shaper to make my curves look smoother and more contained. In fact, sometimes the plus-size shape wear and body shapers make me feel even sexier with my curves because of the way they make me look in certain clothes. As a matter of fact, I no longer feel like I have to try on items if I am in a hurry because I know that most of the time when I get home if I don’t like how they look at first, putting on a waist cinching girdle or hip trimmer will make me go from a frown to a satisfied smile from what I see in the mirror.
So, what exactly are plus-size shape wear and body shapers? The answer is just about any types of shape wear that will make you look trimmer or will hold things in place to help your curves look smoother. There is a wide variety of items that fall under the shape wear umbrella. I found that the best place to start is to think about what might be your problem areas in clothing. For me, it is my middle and I lean towards things like underwear with a control panel or a waist cinching girdle that makes my waist look a little smaller and my curves a little curvier.
If your area is your hips or thighs, you have a lot of things to choose from as well. I have a friend who wears thigh trimmers or thigh minimizers all the time. The reason she chooses to this is because she feels like she is a little disproportionate from top to bottom. She is a few sizes up on the plus size scale below the waist than she is above the waist, so her plus-size shape wear and body shapers are all geared towards thigh and hip control.
Other plus-size shape wear and body shapers focus on the bra area. Really, a good bra that holds everything up and in place is a shaper. The problem is that most of us make the mistake of not having a bra that supports us well enough. If you have more than one area that needs control, you might want to consider a shape wear body suit. You can even purchase these in a tank top style or strapless style that allow you to be able to get the same effect with a variety of clothes.
