Learn about the key points of planning office space for a marketing and advertising office.
|
If you're planning an office space for a marketing and advertising related business, there are some key points to keep in mind. Understanding these points and their implications can help you plan an office space much easier in terms of time, money, and productivity. The key points to keep in mind are operations, personnel, space layout, and location. While this isn't a comprehensive step-by-step process, it is a set of critical steps I took in my search for an office lease.
Operations
By evaluating your operations you can determine the basic information that you need to determine nearly everything that you need in an office to facilitate business. Consider your different functions of business and the corresponding departments. Quantify the number of people that will make up the departments and create a list of resources that they will need to do their jobs. Consider equipment needs, such as computers, copiers, faxes, file servers, mailboxes, desks, filing cabinets and other furnishings.
Personnel and Space Layout
Now that you have the operations in perspective, think how each employee will be situated within the office space. In a marketing and advertising related business, open work areas are popular because they foster group involvement, open discussion, and creativity. However, not every business fits the open area office environment.
You may need cubicles and private offices for certain types of personnel. Consider special rooms, like a work area for copying, faxing, mailing, etc. Also, conference rooms and file server closets are an important part of business. Make a list of all your personnel needs and layout preferences, so that when you look for office space you will have an idea about how to choose the most appropriate office space for your business needs.
Location
Many marketing and advertising businesses rely on marketing and advertising of their own business. What location benefits you for visibility of your own company, and what area might be beneficial for a sales force that continuously makes trips to and from the office. If your firm does not need a high visibility location, then consider an area that doesn't have such great visibility. These types of areas are usually still easily accessible and the rent tends to be lower.
Keep these key points in mind as you plan for your office space. Not all businesses are the same, and understanding how your business functions on a high-level and a granular level will help you acquire the right office space.
