It is located in Rahata Tehsil in Ahmednagar region of the Indian State of Maharashtra. Shirdi is placed around 296 km from Mumbai which is capital of Maharashtra state. The place is considered as the Land of Sai.
Located about 100 km from Nasik, Shirdi receives travellers in large numbers throughout the year in the form of devotees, who come here to seek blessings. As per the ancient beliefs of people, Shirdi used to be the home of Saint Sai Baba in the 20th century and the saint spent 50 years of his life preaching about universal brotherhood here.
Shirdi is well connected to all the nearby regions of Maharashtra through highways and other modes of transport. The stay facilities in Shirdi mostly include cheap budgeted lodges to mid range hotels that offer a comfortable stay to the travellers coming here. There is no major premium or star rated hotels available here and travellers will have a hard time locating non vegetarian joints as the place is a religious destination.
Devotees start assembling here at the Sai Baba temple early in the morning and witness religious rituals like Poojas and Aartis around the statue of the Saint. Other than the temples located here, attractions located here include mosque where the saint used to meditate every alternate day. A flame depicting the soul of the saint still exists here. The place offer devotees a glance of Sai Baba’s life along with laser shows, live shows etc. Shani Shingnapur is considered as a popular place to visit here and is a holy place famous for the prominent temple of Lord Shani.
Helicopter services are available from different locations within Maharashtra towards Shirdi at fixed rates. The helicopter services are operated by the Sai Baba committee and they require special permission to land them in Shirdi. Other than helipads, shuttle services are also managed by the Sai trust here. The train station is just ten minutes from the temple of Sai Baba thus, making journey much easier. There is several stay options located around the region of Shirdi but those located near to the temple are mostly occupied in the peak festive seasons when the inflow of tourist in maximum.
