Palma is the capital of Majorca, one of the most popular islands in Spain.

Why Palma?

Palma is the capital of Majorca, one of the most popular islands in Spain. The island is situated in the Majorca Bay and it enjoys a wonderful climate, with average temperatures of seventeen degrees Celsius. People visit Palma for the sun and for its beaches, but the historical part of the city is very attractive too. If you have chosen Palma as your holiday destination, take your time to enjoy a journey into the past. You will be delighted by its charm, as Palma has been under Roman and Moorish rule. Even the Berber pirates had an influence, for Palma was under their reign for a few decades. They all left their fingerprints on the city, its tradition, and its customs.

Sightseeing in Palma

It was King Jaume the first who ended the Moorish reign, in the 13th century and started the construction of the buildings that can still be seen today. Inside the high walls that were built in the 18th century as a measure against the pirates, stands the old quarter; probably the most beautiful part of the city. The amazing courtyards surround palaces and churches that will please the eyes of tourists.

After you visit the old quarter, make a stop to the Cathedral of Palma, or Sa Seu. Sa Seu is built close to the fishing harbor, in a spectacular place that gives it an elegant air. The Gothic Cathedral stays on the same place where once stood the Mayurca Mosque.

After you visit Sa Seu, you can’t miss the Almudaina Palace. It stands opposite Sa Seu and was built during the Moorish reign. The palace is now a museum.

And last but not least on your sightseeing list should be the Sa Llotja. It is an old fish market, currently transformed into a place for exhibitions. It is one of the best examples of Gothic civil architecture not only in Palma, but in all of Spain.

Palma for All

Since you are in Palma, you can’t miss going to the beach. The number of beaches is very large. They all have exquisite restaurants, shops, bike lanes, and promenades; and there are even a few beaches especially created for small children.

Staying in Palma

If you want to experience Palma right to the end, choose a villa for accommodation. You will have the chance to experience the privacy that villas offer to their tourists, as well as the home-made local cuisine. Have a nice stay!!
