An area with the greatest number of per capita jet skis in Europe

Costa del Sol is a 160 km long coastline in the south of Spain. It belongs to the province of Malaga located in autonomous community of Andalusia.

Everyone has heard of this popular tourist destination

“Coast of the sun” is the meaning of its name in English. Costa del Sol extends from the town of Almeria to the town of Tarifa and from the Costa de la Luz to the Costa Tropical.

Long time ago, Costa del Sol was a fishing area

During the 20th century, Costa del Sol rapidly grew into a tourist attraction. Nowadays, Costa del Sol is a densely populated area and there are many cities that are placed on this coastline. Some of these cities are: Málaga (the capital city of the province of Malaga), San Roque and La Línea de la Concepción, Torrox,Sotogrande, Torremolinos, Manilva, San Pedro de Alcántara, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Rincon de la Victoria, Mijas, Marbella, Estepona, Vélez-Málaga, Nerja, etc.

This area was inhabited during the Bronze Age and many different cultures such as the Moors, Phoenicians, Romans, Carthaginians and Visigoths have lived in this area.
In the late 20th century, locals re-named it the “Costa del Crime” because many world famous people came to live here and there were many criminals among them. Some cities such as the city of Marbella are full of rich and famous people who came to live in this paradise.


So many places to see, so many places for enjoyment

In addition to beautiful beaches with white sand, deep blue sea and a lot of interesting and historical cities (such as Ronda), there are many other places to visit.

Here are some of them:
Cueva de Nerja, the cave that was discovered in 1959; its main room has a 45 m high column which was entered as a record in the Guinness Book of Records.
El Torcal is the largest European karstic landscape. Different shapes and formations of limestone surrounded by more than 700 species of plants make this place unique and breathtaking.
Laguna de Fuente de Piedra is the largest salt lake in Spain. Approximately 50,000 flamingos come to this lake for breeding every year.
Ruins of Bobastroare is the most important archaeological site in Malaga province.It contains the remains of a Muslim necropolis called Alcazar and a mozarambic church, for sure a destination to visit!
