Extremadura is widely known for its beauty, wealthy flora and fauna, nature reserves and preserved surroundings. There are a lot of forests, rare species of plants and animals and national parks in Extremadura that are protected due to their value. Extremadura presents some of the largest ecosystems in Spain. This region is considered as one of the non-urbanized regions of Spain.

This natural treasure is the Spanish heritage for future generations

Extremadura is an unspoilt and untouched area located in western Spain. The rocky terrain of Extremadura is composed of Montes de Toledo, Cordillera Central and Sierra Morena Mountains. The highest point of this region lies at an altitude of 2401 meters above sea level and it is located in the Sierra de Béhuard Mountain. Extremadura has several magnificent rivers that make up the complex hydrographic network. Some of them are the Guadalquivir River, the Tagus River (it is the biggest one) and the Guadiana River. These rivers and their tributaries flow through gorges situated in the Majestic System of Central mountains. The largest reserve in Extremadura is called Monfragüe and in 2007 it was declared as the national park. It is under the UNESCO protection. Some of the rare animal species such as Black Vultures and the Spanish Imperial Eagle live in Monfragüe natural reserve.

Extremadura is an autonomous community in western Spain. It is located near the Portuguese border. It borders Andalusia, Castile and León and Castile-La Mancha. This is one of the less populated regions of Spain. Extremadura has about one million inhabitants. The capital city is Merida. This city there has a rich cultural and historic heritage that consists of the Roman Coloseum, the two aqueducts, Roman Bridge and an amphitheater.

Climate of Extremadura represents a mixture of the continental and the Mediterranean climate. Several languages are spoken in the region of Extremadura. In addition to Spanish, Portuguese language, Extremaduran language and A Fala language are also spoken here.

Besides the capital city of Extremadura, there are some other cities such as Caceres, Trujillo, Guadalupe and Plasencia Badajoz that create the rich historical heritage of Extremadura.
