Remote controlled cars are enjoyed not only by children but even by adults as a huge stress relieving and diversion exercise. Until a few years ago, electric radio controlled cars were the most preferred option, since petrol RC cars were quite costly, with basic models costing around $1,500. However, the price of such cars had come down significantly in the fast few years to around $200 and they are gaining in popularity all over the world. The main reason for this substantial reduction in the price of petrol RC cars is the advancements in technology and increased demand.

Petrol RC cars normally have a servo that functions as the throttle and control for breaking. When the servo spins in one direction, this action makes the throttle situated on the carburetor to open up. Through this process, a mixture of air and fuel is injected into the internal combustion engine in the petrol remote controlled cars. If the servo spins in the opposite direction, the torque created by that action gets applied on a piece, causing friction with the breaking system. The break is located on the drive shaft. The friction caused by the torque stops the two wheels in 2-wheel drive models and all the four wheels in 4-wheel drive models.

The standard engine sizes of such petrol RC cars range from 12 cubic inches to 21 cubic inches. These engines are powerful 2-stroke engines that are quite similar to engines used in motorbikes. Most countries prohibit petrol radio controlled cars with higher engine capacities to avoid physical harm to users or bystanders. However, these restrictions are relaxed for racing cars, which use engines with 21 cubic inches to 28 cubic inches. These remote controlled cars are normally made on 1/10th scale or 1/8th scale, while cars of 1/5th and 1/4th scale are also manufactured. Due to their immense power and size, these cars had become the rage among radio controlled car buyers all over the world.

Petrol RC cars have their own advantages and disadvantages. The major advantages are

• Higher power and speed, compared to electric radio controlled cars, with speeds up to 60 to 80 mph possible in petrol RC cars
• Refueling the car is easy and it can be started immediately, while electric cars require considerable time to recharge to full capacity
• Petrol RC cars have engines require tuning only very rarely and then run smoothly for longer periods
• Operating them in outdoor conditions help in not only utilizing their speed and power but also have more fun and enjoyment in racing them against other similar cars

Disadvantages of Petrol RC Cars are

• The size and the emission of fumes of Petrol RC cars make them unsuitable for operations in homes and confined spaces
• Due to their higher power and speed, beginners will find it difficult to control and maneuver them, until they gain adequate experience
• Young children will not be able to handle them easily and are likely to crash and damage them more frequently
