More often than not, we end up spending more than our budget. Aside from the fact that impulse shopping can be really tempting, many shoppers also get themselves fooled by marketing tricks used by sellers.
More often than not, we end up spending more than our budget. Aside from the fact that impulse shopping can be really tempting, many shoppers also get themselves fooled by marketing tricks used by sellers. Often, they end up spending their instant and easy-to-apply-for payday loans or swiping their credit cards for items that they don’t really need. If this habit turns into a regular occurrence, this can greatly ruin one’s finances.

So, to help you avoid the mistakes of falling for these crazy marketing tricks, it’s important that you know how to pin point which ones are simply tricks and which ones are for real. Here are the four marketing mistakes to watch out for.

The lucky 9’s. This is one of the most common marketing strategies used by a lot of sellers. They mark their prices with two 9’s in the end - $2.99, $5.99, $29.99. When a person sees figures such as this, their mind rounds it off to the lesser whole number and not to the bigger number. This trick has been proven even by psychologists to work efficiently.

The dollar store. Sellers name their stores as “the 99 cents store” or “the one dollar store.” At first glance, this can be very enticing because we think that we’ll be saving up a lot of cash. But in reality, the prices of items here are marked up twice the price in supermarkets. If you really want to make the most out of your 99 cents, choose smaller variants.

The no dollar sign. Another technique that sellers use is by writing down the prices in words. Studies have proved that when you spell out the prices instead of writing it figures, people hardly see the value of the amount at first glance. It’s a common technique used in restaurant menus.

The catchy tag lines. Marketers use a lot of catchy phases that will move their customers to make a purchase. Tag lines such as “50% sale”, “limited time only”, or “buy one take one” can seem like really great deals when in fact, there’s an underlying explanation for them. The next time that you encounter these phrases, be careful not to fall into any of the tricks.

Avoid these marketing tricks and save yourself a lot of cash. Doing so will also help you avoid wasting your cash advances or your payday loans on unimportant items. These loans may be convenient to apply for but they’re better reserved for more urgent needs that could arise in the future.
