Pattaya has a unique mix of city life and nature. The city with a combination of its big, wide beaches, water sports, interesting attractions, sightseeing, shopping, great hotels and resorts, international dining experiences - together of course with a raucous and naughty nightlife scene that's talked about the world over –makes Pattaya's formula for fun a big winner.
From the time our flight landed in the Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok (Thailand’s capital city), Arpita (my wife) & I was jumping with joy with the thought that our dream of visiting the fun city of Pattaya was coming true. For quite a long time we were planning to visit this mystic city of sin and nature. Finally after the financial year end of March, we applied for our leaves in our companies and headed to realize our dream.

There are quite a few beaches in Pattaya and each of them are unique in their own sense and beauty. We decided to explore Pattaya Beach and Jomtien Beach during our stay.

From Suvarnabhumi Airport we took a bus service to Pattaya. This is quite hassle free and a cheaper medium compared to taxis. The bus dropped us on the highway junction and from there we took a tuk-tuk to our hotel in Pattaya Beach. We were enjoying our ride thoroughly in the tuk-tuk which is a three wheeled vehicle, open from two sides, when all of a sudden someone splashed water at us. Arpita gave out a loud scream as the water sprayed on us was chilling, but soon her scream was silenced by another splash of water from a couple of guys on the street. Welcome to Pattaya city and what a start to our party. The whole of Thailand was celebrating ‘Water Festival’ or the ‘Songkran Festival’ which happens once a year in the month of April. The Thai people celebrate this festival with water. Everyone gets soaking wet and since it is the hottest season of the year, the custom is quite refreshing.

By the time we reached our hotel, we were totally drenched but still longing for more of this unique festival. We quickly changed our clothes to a more comfortable beach wear and headed for the pattaya beach. And yes you guessed it right even before we reached the beach we were drenched. There was fun & frolic all around. The beer bars were full of tourists who were enjoying splashing others with cold water. The beer bars allow you to use their drum water if you buy beer from them. The bars were lively with the bar girls dancing and spraying water along with the tourists. Everyone were in a festive mood and pattaya surely lived upto its reputation of a party city.

And then there’s Pattaya Beach. Buzzing and vibrant, this incredibly famous and enduringly popular stretch is a whole different story: a cosmopolitan seafront in which it’s possible to enjoy all of the above, plus pretty much every modern convenience and luxury known to man. World-class shopping, restaurants, clubs, bars and hotels in addition to sun, sand and sea - Pattaya truly has it all! While most beaches rely simply on the beauty of their natural surroundings for their charm, Pattaya Beach 'a 4km crescent-shaped sandy bay'goes all out to give visitors everything their hearts desire. As abundant as sun, sand and sea along this bustling palm-fringed stretch, are superb hotels, value-for-money shopping malls and market stalls, a huge variety of restaurants, endless sports and leisure activities, and, of course, the bars and discos that have earned it its raucous reputation. The result? Not only the perfect place to let the world pass by, but also one of the world's most energetic beach resorts, a happening place buzzing with modern-day energy, activity and options.

Before heading back to our resort, we went to check out the Famous Underwater World Pattaya. This unique underwater world has tunnel shaped aquarium with various kinds of sharks and fishes swimming above your head to all directions. The experience was good and we felt families with children should make a visit here if coming to Pattaya.

As evening dawned we wore our party attire and off we went to explore the glitzy nightlife. As we were strolling around in the walking street (pattaya’s most famous night out place), we saw numerous beer bars, go-go bars and massage parlours. Our inquisitive mind wanted us to check out one of the go-go bars and the next moment we were paying baths to get entry into one of the go-go bars. Once we entered the go-go bar we were shocked to see girls scantily dressed and some without any dress dancing on an elevated dance floor. The good thing about go-go bars in pattaya is that you can take your girl friend or wife along with you, and most of them are quite safe. We did not feel much awkward, since there were other couples also sitting and enjoying the show. The shows though a mix of seductiveness and vulgarism required a bit of skill to perform as well.

Once out of the go-go bar we headed towards a European Girls Dance Bar as it was called. Here the show was quite different from the go-go bars and was more sensual in nature. The girls were stunning and performing pole dance for us. They had unique skills of pole dancing and it felt the girls were floating in the air. The dance was superb and one of the most sensual forms we experienced in Pattaya. If you offer them tips they will come personally to your table for a lap dance. Exhausted and excited with our experience we headed straight back to our resort for a good night’s sleep.

The next day we woke up early to pay a visit to the famous Coral Islands. We went to the Coral Island by a speed boat and the experience was quite unique with bumps and jumps all through the ride. Before hitting the coral islands we stopped at a mid ocean deck. This was a deck made specially for parasailing. Arpita was a little apprehensive at first to try it out so I decided to take the plunge. They made me wear a life jacket and tied the ropes of the parachute to it. Once the speed boat started to move forward with the ropes of the parachute attached to it, I was suspended in the sir before I could react. This was one of the most exciting rides of my life. Suspended fully in air, you feel like a bird. At one point of time the speed boat stopped and you slowly descend to touch the water before flying again. Seeing me, Arpita overcame her fear and also tried out the sport. It was a thrilling experience for both of us which till date we cherish. Soon we landed in the Coral Islands. The beach was beautiful with its crystal blue water and white sand. There were numerous water sports starting from water scooter, banana boat ride etc. We decided to rent one of the beach chairs with umbrellas and lie down on the beach enjoying every moment of it. Every now and then we jumped in the blue water and tried out snorkeling. It was fascinating to see the natural water world beneath with colorful fishes all around.

Soon after that lunch time arrived and we were treated with some fresh sea fish, rice & fruits. While eating we heard people talking about “Under Water Walking” & being the adventurous types as we were, we headed straight for the adventure. The under water walking experience was a breath taking experience, where you wear a big glass helmet and the guide takes you to the bottom of the sea which is 20 feet below. The glass helmet is attached with a oxygen pipe in turn attached to the boat. We were actually walking on the ocean surface and viewing the various colorful fishes all over. There were swarms of fishes surrounding us once, when we started feeding them bread. There were beautiful corals all around and Arpita felt as if she was nothing short of a sea mermaid.

Before heading towards our hotel, we wanted to try out the famous thai massage to give relief to our already aching muscles. We went for the oil massage and it was quite embarrassing at first since you are asked to take of your clothes fully and you are at the disposal of only a small towel to cover up your desired part. Both Arpita and I were sleeping side by side and there were two girls who gave us a sensual, refreshing and fantastic massage. There were times when I couldn’t help myself fall asleep during the course of the massage. After a one hour full body oil massage we headed for our resort and snored off.

The next morning we took a cab to suvarnabhumi airport and headed back home. Probably this is the part in our holidaying that we hate but surely the sweet memories of pattaya will always remain with us. Yes we are planning again to visit this city.
