Personal wellness comes from fulfillment of our personal aspirations or goals in different spheres of our life. The five elements which contribute to the personal wellness, we call them the Panch-Mantras of personal wellness.

These five areas are:

- Wealth

- Health

- Leisure

- Relationships

- Spirituality

Everyone aspires certain progress in each of these areas.

All of us can understand the importance of these elements in making life what it is. Though there are no absolute milestones to mark ones satisfaction on each of these elements, we usually understand areas where we are not satisfied and areas where we are.

There are no hierarchical levels in these elements to say which of them is more important than the others. Spirituality, though, is of a higher order compared to others. Particularly at the middle age career questions such as - Where am I headed? Is there a meaning in what I am doing? What is the purpose? etc. start bothering us.

Exploring Panch-Mantra of personal wellness

Comfort with the life goals are discussed in greater detail here.

1. Comfort with wealth

A sense of security in terms of present and future vis a vis what one aspires for.

It is not about absolute quantum which one may never be able to clearly state. However, a professional does have a feeling that one is having or not having enough to meet present needs and wants. Further, the professional seeks to secure the future of ones family by making appropriate investments to create assets. One expects ones profession to provide compensation for all these aspirations.

2. Comfort with health

A sense of wellbeing of oneself and ones near & dear ones.

The consciousness of good health has evolved in recent times. So also have the problems related to health - given the changes in the social lifestyle, the work style, environment, quality of intake etc. Seeking, maintaining and sustaining personal and family health thus becomes an important factor, one which requires investment of time and money.

3. Comfort with leisure

A sense of being able to devote time to areas of ones interests.

We all have many more facets to our self and desire to nourish them. These could range from simple pleasures like eating different kinds of food, traveling or indulging in sports, to esoteric reading habits or deep sea diving. But this has to be balanced against the other factors. In developed countries importance to this aspect is very high. As we see growth and prosperity in India, many of us have started paying higher attention to this aspect.

4. Comfort with relationships

Man is a social being and derives strength from relationships.

Relationships keep a person emotionally strong and drive the other faculties. Both in our family as well as in our professional lives, we encourage and nurture some relationships, while keeping others to minimum. A relationship which causes friction can have a negative impact on other aspects of life. This is particularly true in the Indian context, where relationships are given a lot of weight.

5. Comfort with purposefulness

Man is a spiritual being and has this eternal quest for the truth.

Are we fulfilling our moral and social duties? Have we done our bit for society, for mankind, for the environment? Is this what I should be doing? Is there meaning in what I am doing? These are questions from our inner voice which require positive answers if we want to get ahead.
