Vacation travel is very different from business travel; therefore, the objects you bring won't be the same. For both sort of travel you still need the basic toiletries: toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, hair brush, etc. However, varying on the travel preparations, you should be able to leave a number of of your items at home and take advantage of the free products hotels and inns have to offer, such as shampoo, soap, hair dryer and robe. A fast website check or phone call will allow for you to confirm the products they can offer for you. Pre-planning and packing smart makes your trip more carefree and pleasant.

Be sure to use the correct sized suitcase for the duration and reason of the vacation. If you don’t have the proper size, or your bag is broken like broken wheels, the zipper pulls, or the stitching is coming undone, you should use a bag from a friend or purchase a new bag. Bags that are in poor condition can break and fail to hold the belongings. If only going for a weekend trip, you won’t need as many clothes as a lengthier trip would require. Study where you're going, and the things you plan to attend. Pack only the clothing you will need to accomplish those events.

After getting the luggage and the items you want to bring with you, it’s time to pack the bag. If you are on medication, you should always pack those things first, and put them in a purse or smaller bag that you carry with you separately from other luggage that may not be with you as you travel. This way, if you are detached from your baggage, you have access to them. Taking items that don't require any ironing is desirable; however, if your trip needs dress attire, no-iron fabrics are desired and packing them thoroughly can spare you from having to iron them once at your location. If your bag has a loop for hangers, put clothes that are on hangers in the bag first. Start with bigger objects: shirts and dresses. Be sure to lay each piece in separately, and smooth the creases and wrinkles out. T-shirts, jeans, and shorts can be rolled up, which will not only protect them from getting wrinkles, but will help to fill up the suitcase. The tighter the items are protected in the suitcases, the better they will weather the trip and get there in good shape. Tinier items such as jewelry, socks, underpants, etc. can be stuffed into shoes, and other spaces remaining after packing clothing. If you plan to travel frequently, you may want to keep a separate stock of toiletry pieces just for travel, so that they are always ready to get and go.

Wrap shoes in plastic to keep shoe polish or dirt from getting on your other packed items. Put these and bigger items in the bag at where they will be at the bottom when transporting. Put toiletry items into plastic bags as well. This will keep any liquid or powder that leaks if they open accidentally (If traveling by air, you will want to keep liquids handy for carry-on luggage as they have to go through the security scanners individually). Check with traveling friends to see if you can share things that may not be provided or accessible where you are staying; hair dryers are a great example- why would you need more than one? If you are staying in one place for a long period, you can pack lighter by using the in-house cleaning services- dry-cleaning, washing machines and dryers.

To improve your packing for travel, always question if you really need an item, is it necessary? Practice smart packing and you can vacation anywhere with ease and relaxation. The more you travel, the better packing gets.
