Eng3 recently announced that it will ship its Activated Air device with the SouthMedic’s OxyArm nasal diffuser, giving customers an alternative to the standard nasal cannulas also provided with the device. Athletes have had a growing interest in Activated Air, which is designed to improve cell metabolism including the uptake of oxygen. “It is a healthy alternative to EWOT [exercise with oxygen therapy]” notes Hans Eng, Eng3 CEO, “because with Activated Air the athlete is not metabolizing additional oxygen, which generates additional free radicals.” In fact, Eng3’s device is designed to reduce oxidative stress damage caused by excess free radicals. However, because the athlete breathes Activated Air through a nasal tube, it is often mistaken for the concentrated oxygen used for EWOT.

There is growing use of Eng3’s Activated Air device by performance athletes who benefit from better oxygen intake, faster recovery, increased concentration and stronger immunity. Activated Air can be used before or after a workout, or during training if the athlete is on a treadmill, spin bike, elliptical or other stationary equipment.

The OxyArm is worn like a headset and does not touch your face. Because it delivers the air through a diffuser (shown below) it can be adjusted for people breathing through their nose or mouth. When athletes are training hard, they tend to breathe through their mount more than their nose. A typical nasal cannula goes into the nose and cannot be adjusted for the mouth. With the OxyArm it is easily to swing the arm with the diffuser from the nose to the mouth. An athlete can quickly make this adjustment during a workout, once training intensity has him or her breathing through their mouth.

A tube from the device connects to the rear of the arm and the arm can be positioned on the athlete’s right or left side. This means Eng3’s device can be placed on either side of the exercise equipment without the tube getting in the way. The OxyArm, which is high tech, sleek and lightweight, has proven to be a great compliment to Eng3’s technology.
