Literature is a very important part of your research, but organizing these can be a real headache. But thanks to the technologically revolution, organizing academic literature isn’t a problem anymore. Reference management software is a boon to research students looking to collect and manage their personal database of references that are collected from the internet, library, printed material, and even bibliographical database.

ReadCube is one such research reference manager that allows students to organize and arrange their reference material in an organized manner. Thus, you can import PDF’s from your computer and add bibliographical information. All that is required to be done is to simply click and drag your PDF files and the software automatically organizes your information. It even keeps file names for you. And finding these files is easy, thanks to the advanced text search. It even suggests literature related to your search term. This browser based reference manager also helps you with in-line comments and direct links to related articles. Thus, you can annotate articles directly in the browser, even as the PDF remains in the original location. You can search for articles in PubMed and Google Scholars. When you find articles that are applicable, it automatically downloads the articles in a PDF file.

The idea is the brainchild of Sinisa Hrvatin and Robert McGrath, research students at Harvard. The software is a result of the problems faced by them in organizing and discovering research literature. Some of its features include:

- Easy to understand and interactive: The interface is intuitive and easy to understand even for beginners. And to help users get accustomed, there are extensive tutorials.

- Excellent import feature: Imports are done immediately and automatically, once it is determined that the paper format is in the PDF format. Thus the file is indexed along with the file name and the name of the author.

- Full text search capability: The full text search administrator makes it easy for people to search through a vast library.

- Quick search through PubMed and Google Scholar: Downloading relevant literature through Google Scolar and PubMed is quick. When a user clicks on a particular link, the software searches for the associated PDF file and extract it to the folder.

While there are other research manager softwares available, what separates Readcube from the rest is the fact that its main focus lies in organizing the PDF’s of scholarly papers. The fact that the software was evolved after consultation with hundreds of research scholars, postdocs, and professors has helped Readcube come up with this excellent user interface.
