It is possible to transmit oral herpes when no cold sores are present, but because so many adults have it (some stats are as high as 80 - 90%), it is not worth foregoing intimacy altogether due to the fear of transmission. Finally, be aware that kissing a baby while you have active oral herpes (a cold sore) can - in rare cases - be potentially fatal. Hands should also be washed thoroughly if you have a present cold sore before touching a baby. You should protect yourself and others with the common courtesy of being tested and knowing what your sexual health status is. Go to a free clinic or a doctor and get yourself tested for a plethora of diseases and you can enjoy the wide open doors of safer sex, but be warned, there are many that don't and you need to be careful. To ease the pain of the blisters fermentation with ice or warm packs to the infected area is advised. Precautions should be taken in order to avoid other areas of the skin from getting infected.
