All you need is an investment of as little as a few hundred dollars and a genuine concern for kids. If you’re lucky, it might grow into a substantial enterprise with potentially millions of dollars a year in revenue or remain just as you began as an individual proprietorship. You may want to consider a business that focuses solely on providing transportation for children, or provide books or uniforms for children or even high gadget edutainment toys. The underlying fact however is that the basic work you'll be doing is to care for someone else's child. You are therefore responsible for their safety and well-being.

Inorder to start a child-care center needs to love children, be a people person, have a high tolerance for stress, have good insurance, and have some management skills. A child-care business can easily be started in your home with just a few weeks of planning and a modest amount of startup cash with a plan along the following areas:
• Type of center: Operating from your home or office.
• Licensing: The licenses are you required, their eligibilities and, costs.
• Training and certification: The type of training and/or certification required.
• Market: The child-care needs of your community.
• Location: Choose a site that is appropriate and affordable.
• Legal requirements: Check on zoning and any other legal issues.
• Financial issues: Estimate your startup costs and identify the source(s) of your startup funds.
• Health and safety issues: Plan for accident and illness prevention, and develop emergency procedures.
• Programs: Develop an appropriate schedule of activities for the children.
• Equipment: The need to adequately equip your center, and the cost.
• Insurance: The coverage do you need to adequately protect yourself and the children in your care.
• Staffing: The staff-to-child ratio and human resources policies.
• Links: The community and professional resources available.
