Friends, today I am going to discuss about one of the most common part of mathematics which always plays an important role not just in higher grades but in each and every grade, and the topic is Rational expressions. Let’s discuss about the basic definition of rational numbers. Rational number is an expression which can be written as a fraction a/b. Here a is the numerator and b is a denominator. The most important thing to understand is that denominator can never be zero.
Some theorems which tells you about the exact nature of rational expressions:
First one is that any integer is a rational number or expression and it can be explained as a number n = n/1.
Second: the representation of rational number as a fraction is not unique. Like 5/4 = 10/8 = -15/-12.
The third theorem is that every nonzero rational number or a rational expression that do not contain a 0 has a representation in lowest term.
Closure Property of Rational Number which is always used in solving rational expressions are:
x/y + a/b = xb + ay / yb and a/b divide c/d = ad/bc.
a/b x c/d = ac/bd.
Let’s take a 9th grade rational expression problem to understand the basics behind it.
x + 4/ x + 2 can be solved by using rationalization method, in which the denominator with different sign is multiplied with both numerator and denominator.
x + 4/ x + 2 multiply x – 2/ x – 2
Now the result is x2 – 2x + 8/ x2 – 22
For simplifying rational expression, we need to have a good factoring skills. It requires two steps in solving a rational expression. Factoring the numerator and denominator is the first step and the second step is divide all common factors that the numerator and denominator have.
Now I am going to discuss about Inequality topic of 9th grade. An inequality tells that two values are not equal. For example a ≠ b shows that a is not equal to b. We need to be careful while solving inequalities, as they are harder to solve than equations and require more attention. You can multiply an equation by a positive or negative number and get an equivalent equation.
But while solving inequalities remember this: when multiplying it by a negative number, you need to change sign of the inequality. Various inequality solvers are available over internet for free which allows you to solve or graph inequalities. It also tells you how to arrive at an answer and what is the most optimum way to solve the given problem. It also provides Math homework help by providing you all the answer to your problems with all the steps used.
