The goal is to provide a better way for first responders such as police office and firefighters to respond to major emergencies. By linking up so many surveillance cameras, first responders would be able to get a more comprehensive understanding of each emergency, allowing them to devise more efficient ways to handle the situation. The system is similar to one that already exists in Alabama, and the plan is to have it up and operating within the next two years. A total of $235,000 was approved for the project last month. So, is this network of security cameras a way to make Ohio safer, or a big invasion of Ohioans’ privacy? This would allow first response team members to locate an emergency situation as quickly as possible – even if the monitoring cameras are not within their immediate surveillance area.
