Mining and Chemical Products Limited have been looking to increase the production of bismuth powder due to the rise in global demand. This recognized ISO 9000 company sought out Russell Finex to help them meet demand and supply a sieving machine that could improve their overall process efficiency.

The final solution was a Russell 900mm diameter-sieving machine; two were purchased and installed with a Vibrasonic Deblinding SystemTM.

Russell Finex offers innovative technology with its ultrasonic sieve deblinding system, known as the Vibrasonic Deblinding System (VDS). The system eliminates the blocking and blinding of mesh and has revolutionized the screening of difficult powders on sieve meshes, allowing accurate separation down to 20m. This helps increase sieving capacity and reduces mesh breakage.

The Vibrasonic sieving machines are employed for elimination of fines and oversize leaving good quality powder. The vital component to processing bismuth powder is speed; an oxidising reaction with the atmosphere ultimately makes the powder unusable. With Vibrasonics the throughput rate can reach 70 kilos per hour ensuring that the metal powder can then be quickly separated and will capable of avoiding the atmosphere before the final stage in the production process, known as ‘de-dusting’ where the bismuth powder will go through additional quality testing prior to packing.

Screening efficiency is greatly increased with the use of ultrasonics compared to conventional vibration. The Vibrasonic Deblinding System uses an acoustically developed transducer, which applies an ultrasonic frequency straight on to the stainless steel mesh. The sieve mesh wires become friction free due to the frequency of the vibration and allows the surface of the mesh to be broken down and prevents material that are slightly larger or smaller than the apertures from blinding or blocking the screen mesh as a result reducing flow rates.

The Russell sieving machine has eliminated mesh blinding and by using vibrasonic sieving machines the company now benefits from operating at a consistently high level, while reducing downtime and ensuring costs are reduced by maintaining their mesh life for longer.

Process Manager, Kevin Godfrey comments “Russell sieving machines have been operating successfully for number of years, the Russell Vibrasonics system has been helping us to continue to provide exceptional product quality. Our production lines are now semi automatic and have increased our process efficiency while also decreasing our operator costs. The machines performances have surpassed expectations and have ensured that we can continue to provide excellent quality product to our customers”.
