New Mexico is a beautiful state, with a population of approximately two million, with imposing mountains and vast ranches. It is the 36th most populous state in the USA, and is the fifth largest state.

New Mexico is a beautiful state, with a population of approximately two million, with imposing mountains and vast ranches. It is the 36th most populous state in the USA, and is the fifth largest state. Sharing its four corners with Utah, Colorado, and Arizona, it boasts a pleasantly chilly alpine climate on its northern and eastern side, with a warmer and dryer climate in the west and south. It has the highest population percentage of Hispanic and Latino Americans, and the second highest percentage of Native Americans. The state also boasts a proud history.
However, New Mexico has had its fair share of problems that have often put the state at the bottom of several lists. Education has been a hot topic for many years, as the quality and standard of education leaves much to be desired. The quality of graduates also means low employability which gives rise to other problems.
Gun control, school safety, the spread of drug and alcohol abuse, poverty, wildlife management, and the current state of the universities are just some of the problems that New Mexico inhabitants cite as major problems.
These issues need proper representation in Congress, and the state will need a strong, bold voice with clear opinions and loud demands to set these issues straight in the state of New Mexico. To this end, the Congressional elections will be the means to the end, which is to find a New Mexico Congressman – that strong voice that will efficiently put forth New Mexico’s issues in Congress, and bring reforms to the state.
New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District race has numerous Democratic candidates, while it has just one Republican and a handful of representatives from the other factions. Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham steps down after three terms, and the Democratic primary marks has been opened for the first time in six years. The big question now is: ‘who is running for Michelle Lujan Grisham’s congressional seat?’
The Democrats have an impressive line-up, and each candidate brings something unique with them that can influence people. Deb Haaland is a former New Mexico Democratic Party chairwoman and would be the first female Native American in the U.S. House of Representatives. Damon Martinez is a former U.S. attorney for New Mexico, while Antoinette Sedillo Lopez is a Hispanic woman who would appeal to the majority of the demographic. Paul Moya, running for Congress, is a business strategy consultant and CEO of Millenial Labs, and brings with him years of management expertise and experience. Others are Pat Davis who is an Albuquerque City Councilor who will represent the voice of the LGBTQ community; and Damian Lara who is a lawyer and former congressional and state House of Representatives staffer.
The Republican representative is Janice Arnold-Jones who is a former Albuquerque city councilor and state representative. She ran for Congress in 2012 but lost to Lujan Grisham. The Libertarian front is lead by Lloyd Princeton, a business owner and entrepreneur.
These are the New Mexico representatives for 2018, and are the voices that voters hope will represent them in Congress, when the time comes.
