Great news from one of our partners in audio visual solutions: Epson, the number-one selling projector brand worldwide, has announced the availability of two new 3D projectors designed to increase the learning experience in classrooms.

Epson’s new projector products — the PowerLite® W16 and W16SK – are based on active 3D technology and passive 3D technology, respectively. This means that students will gain access to brighter digital presentations and projections. Active 3D provides two different pictures on the screen to create a 3D effect. Passive 3D separates the pictures to direct them to each eye. Each style is used in different ways in the industry. By offering both an active and passive model, Epson is able to provide broader choices for educators selecting the right 3D projection solution for their classroom.

Here are the stats on the projectors, according to Campus Technology News:

• The PowerLite W16SK is a dual projection, stack mount system, featuring standard 2D and passive 3D projection technology. Users will need passive 3D glasses when viewing 3D objects. The projector offers manual keystone correction and 6,000 lumens of color brightness and 6,000 lumens of white brightness, in 2D mode. When stacked the unit measures 14.6 inches (w) x 13.8 inches (d) x 8.8 inches (h) and weighs 17.4 pounds. The W16SK has a contrast ratio of 5,000:1 for stacked 3D.

• Epson’s PowerLite W16 features 3,000 lumens of color brightness and 3,000 lumens of white brightness, automatic horizontal and vertical keystone correction, and standard 2D and active 3D projection technology. Active shutter 3D RF glasses are required to view 3D objects. The unit measures 12.8 inches (w) x 9.6 inches (d) x 3.1 inches (h) and weighs six pounds. The W16 has a contrast ratio of 5,000:1 for 2D and 3,000:1 for active 3D.

Both systems deliver brighter colors, Epson says, allowing for 3D content to be easily viewed in typical, well-lit classroom settings. That is three times brighter than most competitive projectors.

The Epson projectors also feature easy setup and connection options for school teachers and school administrators. Plus, Epson is making the two projectors quite affordable. The PowerLite W16 will retail for $849 and the PowerLite W16SK for $1,899. Both projectors were available for viewing and testing at the FETC education resources trade show in Orlando, Fla., Jan. 28, 2013.

Epson's PowerLite projectors come with a two-year limited warranty (three years for Brighter Futures customers) that includes two elite technical support services – Epson PrivateLine® phone support with direct access to an expedited support telephone line, and a two-year Road Service projector replacement program that includes projector exchange in one business day with paid shipping.
