Flag poles and historic flags have always been fascinating to me. In my study of country banners and historic flags I have found that the Belize flag may very well be the most unique international flag attached to poles in our day.
Flag poles and historic flags have always been fascinating to me. In my study of country banners and historic flags I have found that the Belize flag may very well be the most unique international flag attached to poles in our day. The current flag of this country is some 30 years old. Before this banner was officially adopted, another national flag was used for some 17 years. Belize was recognized as being an independent state officially in '81.

Interestingly, the coat of Arms of Belize, officially recognized in 1907, dates back to 1819. The shield shows the tools used in the logging industry, which provided most of the income of Belize until recently. The badge that is featured on British ensigns is based on the design of this respective coat of arms.

The supporters of the shield that is used in the coat of arms (a Mestizo and a Creole) also hold an axe and a paddle. The crest is a mahogany tree, as referred to in the motto "I Flourish in the Shade." The shield also shows a representation of a ship, such as was used by the buccaneers of the early 17th century. The flag's background is blue and displays red horizontal stripes at the top and bottom of the banner.

Belize is a popular holiday destination to people around the world. It is a constitutional monarchy that is located in the most northern part of Middle America. A little bit of a surprising fact is that the official language spoken is English. However, Spanish and Kriol are languages that are spoken in this monarchy as well. Only two other countries border this beautiful territory and they are Guatemala and Mexico.

Adopted back in 1981, this national flag has been hoisted on residential flagpoles of all kinds throughout Belize. The colors are said to be used by the country's political parties as well. These parties include the PUP and the UDP. The Elize banner is considered very unique, especially since it's flag design features more colors than any other national flag in the world. It is one of few country flags that display human beings on the flag.

Those of you interested in flying historic flags of other countries, considered or better said, make sure to follow the instructions that are presented in the flag code of the country you reside in. Very often, your country of residence's flag should be hoisted on flagpoles above other country banners and flags.
