Undoubtedly, locals and residents alike will not run out of Cleveland, Ohio attractions to enjoy anytime soon. As the seat of the most populous county in the state, namely, the Cuyahoga County, Cleveland has plenty to offer within its 82-square mile land area where the Cuyahoga River snakes through and where Lake Erie stands guard on its southern part. Everything from shopping, dining and listening to rock & roll music to lounging in parks, engaging in sports and watching people go people-watching is possible here. Here then is the incomplete list of Cleveland activities to do and places to see. We always suggest planning your itinerary in the city so as to fully enjoy the places, activities and attractions that best suit your interests.
City of Great Architecture
Just because something is called old does not necessarily mean that it can be dismissed so easily. This is true of the Old Arcade, one of the foremost Cleveland, Ohio attractions that still continue to draw in the crowds as a pedestrian arcade although it is now a world-famous hotel. Such is its grandeur as characterized by a 5-storey atrium filled with beautiful metal decorative work, towers and gargoyles that it was the city's first building to be granted the honor of a place in the National Registry of Historic Places.
Other notable structures in the city that deserves a visit include the City of Bridges with its 4 art deco pylon sculptures; the Peter B. Lewis Building designed by Frank Gehry with its undulating metal form; and the churches scattered around Cleveland particularly in the Tremont district. Even a quick tour in the city's virtually traffic jam-free streets with an easy-t-understand grid layout brings forth surprises in architecture borne of its manufacturing past and commercial present.
City of Great Art
It is not just architecture that makes the Cleveland, Ohio attractions worth second and third visits. Art lovers have a haven in the city, thanks to the vibrant art community as well as art galleries scattered in many of Cleveland's hip neighborhoods.
Visit the Cleveland Museum of Art for its Asian, Greek and Roman collections coupled with an impressive array of medieval armor. Hop on to the Museum of Contemporary Art. Even the city's open spaces are filled with artwork of which the most notable example is the Free Stamp at the Willard Park.
And if music is art, then there is no better homage to the rock and roll genre than the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Every person who aspire to be somebody in the music world aspire to be included here but for us mere mortals, we can only gape at the memorabilia of rock stars. This is arguably the first stop in the roster of the Cleveland, Ohio attractions.
City of Great Waters
And what is a list of Cleveland activities without mention of the things to do at Lake Erie and the Cuyahoga River? Lake Erie is the shallowest and the warmest of the Great Lakes with the result being that it makes for a great venue for boating, fishing and swimming as well as walks on the beach in virtually all seasons. The Cuyahoga River provides for similar activities in addition to its range of nightclubs along its banks.
The abovementioned Cleveland, Ohio attractions are just a few of the possibilities here. Arrive in the city and discover so much more!
