No matter how you are planning to celebrate Valentines Day with your partner, there is nothing better than having a moment together with romantic songs in the background. Make this moment unforgettable by listening to his or her favourite tunes.
Music has been a popular gift amongst couples since the invention of the record player. This increased even more when the auto cassette tapes came out as couples were then given the opportunity to personalise the songs that were played. Both men and women could create 'mix tapes', or a tape recording of songs that reminded each other of their significant other.

Now with CDs and MP3 players on the rise, it's easier than ever to create a romantic musical gesture. Both men and women of all ages enjoy listening, and there are several steps that can be taken to make the music even more special.

For example, if a teenager is dating another teenager, recent songs are more likely to be a hit because they're well known. When dating someone slightly older, such as in their 20s or 30s, older well-known songs may also be appreciated because they're timeless classics.

There are also songs that are more geared towards men or vice versa with women. One example is "Best Love Song" by T-Pain, which refers to seeing "a girl that means so much to me." This would be an ideal song to include on a mix tape to a girlfriend, but not so much a boyfriend. The same is true with women, with songs such as "Ours" by Taylor Swift making references to a man. Other songs, such as Britney Spears "Hold It Against Me" could be used for either gender.

Another tactic used to make a romantic play-list is to use songs from the year the couple started dating. If the couple got together in March of 2011, songs from that year, such as "Smile" by Avril Lavigne, "Loving You Tonight" by Andrew Allen, "Tonight (I'm Lovin' You)" by Enrique Iglesias, and "I'm Into You by" Jennifer Lopez could all be included.

The style of music should also be customised to fit the partner’s musical taste. After all, a die-hard rock fan probably won't be crazy about an all-country CD. Fortunately, there are dozens of romantic Valentine's Day songs which cover nearly every musical genre out there.

If the significant other is known to listen to country music, albums from singers such as Taylor Swift and Blake Shelton are known to have countless hits about love. Other romantic country hits include "A Little More Country Than That" by Easton Corbin, "All I Want To Do" by Sugarland, and "Just a Kiss" by Lady Antebellum.

For romantic rockers, Elvis Presley, Bon Jovi, and Queen all have dozens of songs about love. More recent hits include "Far Away" by Nickelback, "Sparks" by Coldplay, "Neutron Star Collision by Muse" by Muse, and "What I Want" by Daughtry.

Finally, if the significant other enjoys pop music, Britney Spears, Train, and Micheal Jackson offer an abundance of choices. In addition to those are songs such as "Finally Falling" by Victoria Justice, "Teenage Dream" by Katy Perry, "Opposites Attract" by Paula Abdul, "Your Love is My Drug" by Keisha, and and "Please Don't Leave Me" by Pink.

Another useful technique when trying to come up with songs for Valentine's day is to incorporate the name of the receiver. For example, if the significant other happens to be named Delilah, the song "Hey there, Delilah" by the Plain White T's may be perfect. Other romantic songs with names in the title include "Angie" by Rolling Stones, "Jessie's Girl" by Rick Springfield, "I Want Candy" by Strangeloves, and "Hey Stephen" and "Mary's Song" by Taylor Swift.

With thousands of songs to choosice from, there are many different routes that can be taken when making Valentine's day music. No matter which direction the couple goes, as long as thought and care is put into it, the significant other is sure to love their gift.
