I am inspired. I was able to watch a documentary show in a local channel about an 81 year old mother and her son. The Television Show caught my attention because in a gist, one could say that it is a kind of a show that will remind every child in this world that whoever we are, wherever we are, however we are doing now we must never forget to show our never ending love for the very important person in our lives, the person who allowed us to see the beauty of this world…Our mother.

Love, respect, gratitude. These three for me are the basic virtues that we children must show our mother (Of course that is aside from the other virtues that we know or show to them). Love is undeniably there. I believe that no one in this world could question the essence of love between a mother and a child. Respect is another matter. It is something that is gained by a person and I do believe that the very first person who earns this from us is our mother. How about gratitude? Gratitude or appreciation requires an action, something observable. The question is, do we have gratitude for our mother? Or maybe the right question is, how do we show gratitude to our mother?
In one of my readings, Abraham Lincoln says “God bless my mother; all I am or hope to be I owe to her” A very inspiring quote from one of the powerful persons in this world that may challenge every child to show gratitude to a mother. My argument here is that, we don’t have to wait to be as Lincoln to show our appreciation to our mother; we can do it right now. Whether you are away from your mother or not, it is just right to show her your gratitude anytime possible, anyway motherhood is a 365 day a year job. I am sure it would make her happier if you would send or show her small gestures of kindness and gratefulness from time to time and more importantly during their very special day…. on Mother’s Day!.
According to mothersdaycentral.com Mother’s Day is celebrated on different days and dates around the world but most commonly occurs on the second Sunday of May. Furthermore, in my count based on their website around 53 countries including the Philippines celebrate it on May 8 and other counties on a different date. “Many countries around the world celebrate Mothers Day on different dates, and in a variety of different ways.” In their query on the business sector, it is expected that two of the most patronized way by children in making their mothers happy on Mother’s Day is by sending gifts and flowers. As they have posted The National Retail Foundation predicts “Mother’s Day is a $14 Billion industry” while “florists see their highest sales in May”. These two statements prove that indeed gifts and flowers are the most common ways of showing appreciation to mothers.
Physical distance should not be a hindrance in making her happy. I am preparing for mother’s day as early as today. I started to browse the net now and I have found out that in the Philippines there is already websites like philflora.com and many other that could help us show our appreciation to our mother and make them the most important person in the world on this very special day.
I am inspired indeed. I would like to make sure that I will not waste time to express my love, respect and gratitude to my mother. I will show simple gestures as often as I can and I will not let this very special occasions pass without me sending her flowers and/or gifts and expressing to her how special she is to me. She who gave me the opportunity to see the beauty of this world and I am so thankful that she is still there to welcome my appreciation of her.
“Since this priceless gift God gave us must from us one day depart, Lavish her with love and kindness, real true love with all your heart.” –Stairs, Our Daily Bread.
