Sony Ericsson are set to launch a new handset this autumn in the shape of the new Xperia Ray model. This model is highly anticipated thanks to a specification that is very impressive but how does the model measure up against its big brother, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc?
There is very little to choose between these two models when you look at the screens that are on offer. Both devices offer an LED backlit LCD display with a resolution of 480 x 854. This resolution puts the models above many of their rival smartphones who tend to offer a lower standard. The two models do differ when it comes to the size of the display with the new Ray offering a 3.3 inch screen as opposed to the 4.2 inch display fitted on the Arc model. This means that consumers looking for a compact device a likely to opt for the smaller model whilst those looking for a large screen multi media phone will most certainly go for the Arc handset. Behind the screen is where the engine room is hiding away on these models and both handsets offer high quality chipsets that ensure both phones run at a fast pace. The Xperia Arc runs on a 1Ghz single core processor which easily handles all tasks that are asked of it. Alongside this chip the phone boasts an impressive amount of RAM memory with 512MB installed. This ensures that the device efficiently handles multi tasking facilities as well as all manner of everyday functions. The Xperia Ray matches the Arc for processor speed but unfortunately falls short in the RAM department meaning that the Arc comes out on top in this area.
Both the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc and the Xperia Ray offer similar camera facilities with both models sporting a high quality 8 mega pixel snapper. An LED flash is included on both models to make those shots taken in poor light look a little better and they also benefit from the inclusion of geo tagging and a touch focus feature that enables you to touch the part of the screen that you want the camera to focus on. The Xperia Arc does offer one extra however in the form of smile detection. This feature automatically takes the snap at the exact moment your subjects are smiling resulting in a perfectly timed photograph. With regards to video capture both handsets can record high definition at a resolution of 720P. Video calls are possible on both models thanks to a secondary front facing camera.
The Xperia Ray is a nice addition to the range but the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc remains the firms flagship model thanks to great features, high specification and a design that rivals the very best phones currently available.
