The quality of our skin greatly impacts our appearance. One might be dressed in the best of clothes and shoes but if the skin (especially facial skin) is unclean or dry or pimply, you just can't look good. Most of us pay a lot of attention to the quality of our clothes and shoes and even hair, but fail in following a simple skin care routine in a disciplined manner everyday that can deliver great results in the short term as well as the long term and give us that healthy and nourished skin.
A basic at-home skin care routine involves cleansing, toning and moisturizing. You will need a cleanser for the first step, a toner for the second and a moisturizer or skin cream for the third and last step. Each step is equally important and should not be skipped if one wants good results. There are several brands of cleansers, toners and moisturizers available in the market and with globalization, a lot of foreign players have given customers additional choice and stiff competition to their rivals. This rivalry and competition works in the customer's interest though as it prompts successful brands to get better and better if they wish to protect their position in the market.
Jumping to the last step of the skin care routine, one could use a moisturizer, a skin cream or a lotion as per one's skin type and preference. All of these combine oil and water in varying proportions to achieve a desired level of richness and consistency. Skin creams are the thickest of them all and are great for use in winters when the skin becomes dry and stretched. They're also ideal for use for people with dry skin since they are more nourishing than the other 2 options. For people with oily skin, however, skin creams could be a bit too greasy and not the best choice for moisturizing. This doesn't mean that people with oily skin should skip moisturizing in their daily skin care routine as some people commonly believe. They could opt for lighter options like moisturizers or lotions instead.
Moisturizers and lotions are also made with combinations of oil and water and are thinner in consistency than skin creams. These leave a light layer of moisture over the skin that feels nourished but not greasy. Many people prefer these over skin creams for this reason. People with normal skin and oily skin also typically tend to prefer light moisturizers and lotions.
Most skin creams, moisturizers and lotions come with some added herbal ingredient these days to make them stand out against the competition. The herbs, vegetables and fruits that are most commonly found are aloe vera, cucumber, lavender and peach. Companies also add a unique fragrance to their product to make it stand out in the crowd. These additions or should we say attractions often play a decisive role in the purchase decision of a consumer as consumers who like the fragrance of lavender might skip all other considerations if they get a lavender-scented cream. With creams, moisturizers and lotions, the only factor besides the branding and herbal/vegetable/fruit additions that influences a consumer's purchase decision is the proportion of oil and water in the product.
