In today’s tech-savvy world how many people will you find without mobile phones in their hands? The gap between mobile phone owners and those who do not possess a mobile phone is steadily decreasing. The use of mobile phone is so ubiquitous and pervasive that even people of the third world countries are using mobile phones in increasing numbers. Though mobile phone signifies technological progress and increased income levels of people, it is also a potent tool for marketers to position their wares, quickly and effectively. In fact, marketers are wasting no time to grab the attention of mobile phone users through mobile marketing. Mobile marketing is a new form of advertising and promotion that has already started challenging the traditional media, such as newspapers and television. This article is dedicated to mobile marketing and how effective it can be with a proper follow-up mechanism.
Why mobile marketing can be so fruitful
Take one interesting piece of statistics from the Mobile Marketing Association. About three out of four mobile phone users send text messages to other users at least occasionally. Over 525 million text messages are sent each day. Therefore you can easily infer that how much mobile phone users are getting used to (in some cases, getting addicted to) mobile phone.
Compared to traditional forms of advertisement, mobile marketing has the ability to generate direct interaction with the consumer. Mobile marketing, backed up with proper marketing research, can lead to more focused advertisement efforts.
Business houses are not forced to waste their valuable marketing budget for those classes of audience that will never have any interest in their products and services. Moreover, instead of just passively watching an advertisement, the target audience can participate by playing games, voting through text messages and getting enrolled in loyalty programs.
Take the simple case of a fast food restaurant. Instead of giving a big-budgeted advertisement in the local newspaper (where the majority of the readers are likely to reject it), the restaurant simply sends text messages to people registered in their customer database. Just imagine how much time and money (compare the cost of placing an ad in the newspaper and sending a message) the restaurant has saved in reaching the end customers and the probability of increased sales has increased manifold.
How to implement an effective follow-up strategy
Every mobile marketing activity should have an effective follow-up strategy. A follow-up activity increases the chances of consummating a sale. As part of an effective follow-up strategy for your mobile marketing initiative, you should always leave a room for direct call for action if the prospective client is interested in the offer. Your text message campaign and your contact number must be adequately publicized in other digital marketing tools like Facebook and Twitter etc. The employees in your business house should also be directed to tell every customer in the store verbally about the offer.
You should follow up your initial offer with some reward. Sometimes all it takes is to announce a small gift coupon or a discount to get increased customers. However, you should not send offers as part of your messages every few days. The ideal time span between two offers should be a fortnight or so. The target audience will very well understand that if they miss this time, they will have to wait for some more time before the next offer comes.
Apart from small subscription coupons, you should reward your customers adequately when they make repeated purchases. “Buy One, Get One FREE” and dollar discounts are good propositions.
Induce the prospective clients to spread the offer by forwarding the message to their friends and relatives. Instinctually, people like sharing messages of common interests with their near and dear ones. You should bank upon this to boost your mobile marketing prospects.
Lastly, a direct phone call, preferably before consummating the sale is a very good follow-up idea for your mobile marketing campaign. The client will get a “direct feel” about your enterprise before engaging themselves into a long term relationship with you.
