After putting together an MVP NFL season people still question Michael Vick considering his arrest on federal dog fighting charges just a few years earlier. Vick has been a hot topic in the NFL since his return. Many people feel that he should never have been allowed to play football again no matter how well he has played for the Eagles in this past season.

On April 25, 2007 during a drug investigation of Davon Boddie, Vick's cousin, authorities obtained evidence of a dog fighting operation which involved the NFL Quarterback. Federal and state authorities began an investigation, and quickly broke ground. Following the investigation evidence was found that Vick had been funding, and actively participating in the illegal dog fighting ring. Evidence of his animal abuse inflamed the public.

During the trial Vick entered a plea of guilty on charges of operating a dog fighting ring, and admitted that he participated in the slaughter of between 6 and 8 dogs, as well as having knowledge of such practices being committed. He also admitted that he financed, and received payment from illegal dog fights. On December 10th Vick was sentenced to 23 months in a federal prison.

After being released from prison Vick was allowed to once more play in the NFL, much to the chagrin of many of his detractors. Since being released Vick has made substantial contributions towards animal rights agencies, and has attempted to outwardly atone for his crimes.

After his release Vick was picked up by the Philadelphia Eagles. His first season was a disappointment, and many of his detractors hoped that it would mark the end of his career. Andy Reid decided to keep Vick on for one more year.

In 2010 Vick put together the single best year of his career. Many sports personalities felt that Vick was a likely candidate for season MVP, and he undoubtedly is one of the top prospects for the Comeback Player of the Year Award. The sudden turn around of his career, and his return to notoriety has once more sparked the tempers of those who can never forgive Vick.

The morality of the situation surrounding Vick is difficult to understand. There are two general schools of thought. There are those people who feel that his personal life, and professional accomplishments should be viewed independently of one another. The other school feels that as a public figure, and a possible influence on others that he has no place in the sport at all, much less one that is rewarded.

Many people will never forgive Vick's transgressions, no matter how much effort he makes to try and rehabilitate his image, but it has become impossible to deny his skill on the football field.
