Now that the summer holidays are upon us, it’s important to make sure our children don’t sit indoors for the entire six weeks watching TV and playing computer games. Although it’s tempting to let them get on with it, there are easy ways to get them outdoors in the fresh air and taking part in enjoyable activities.
If the sun comes out, take the family to your nearest beach and make the most of the weather. Take some buckets and spades and hold a sandcastle competition. Enjoy fish and chips along the promenade for an inexpensive but tasty lunch option. Don’t forget to pack the sun tan lotion to ensure your family are protected from the sun.
On rainy days, baking is a great way to bond with your children as you work together to produce the finished creation. You can choose anything from cupcakes, which are relatively simple and can be decorated individually, through to celebration cakes which require a little more work and effort, but can be satisfying once completed. Involve your children in choosing a recipe and buying the ingredients needed so that they feel like they can take ownership. Invite their friends over to enjoy the cakes once they’ve been made so that they can show their creations off with pride.
If your garden’s seen better days, encourage your children to get outside and get messy. Learning about plants and flowers can be great fun and will also help to improve the look of your garden. Take your family to your local garden centre to choose some new additions together so that they can be involved in how the garden is going to look. If you don’t have a garden, buy some window boxes and plant them together with your children.
Soon the summer holidays will be over and it will be Back to School time, so make sure you make the most of you time with your children while you can.
