Stem glasses are beautiful on their own, and traditionally used as drinking vessels meal times or entertaining at parties. However, these beatific creations can also have other wonderful uses. For example, have you ever thought of turning stem glasses into candle centerpieces? They are quite easy to fashion and will make great additions to decorating your mantelpiece or displayed inside glass cabinets.

Candle centerpieces can be made from a multitude of stem glasses, the choice is yours; from slender champagne flutes to expansive wine goblets. These stem glasses can be further decorated with cabochons, (convexly defined highly polished gems without sides) or multi-colored silk ribbons, after which the surface area can be lit with tea lights and pillared candles. Once you are able to put all the ingredients together, these simple but beautiful centerpieces can be assembled in an hour or less. Supplies are readily available at your local craft stores or even leftover stuff around your home.

Supplies list for champagne flute stem glasses candle centerpieces: -

- 4 champagne flutes
- Strong transparent glue like Liquid nail
- Mirrored tile that would fit all 4 champagne flutes
- Multi-colored cabochons
- Tea light candles
- Gloves to protect your hands

To fashion a candle centerpiece utilizing champagne flutes and tea light candles, put one champagne stem glass right in the middle of your chosen mirrored or reflective tile (you can also use any tiles available). Carefully, glue the bottom of the stem to the tile. Use transparent strong glue such as Liquid Nail. This dries up really fast so use gloves to protect your hands. Then position the balance of 4 flutes meticulously around the glass already glued to the tile. Measure correctly so it all looks balanced. Cover each stem glass with multi-colored cabochons till just beneath the circumference. Once this is completed, place a tea light at the top of each flute. Remember to cover the metal rim of the teal lights with colorful stones to give the illusion of an ever-lasting flame. As a final touch, distribute more cabochons around the mirrored tile. Your centerpiece is now ready to be enjoyed.

The next project is candle centerpieces using stem glasses of different statures. The most important factor here is to ensure that when each stem glass is upside down, the stem is level enough to stand a candle.

What you will need: -

- 8 stem glasses of different statures. Scour through garage sales or thrift stores, it's amazing what you can find.
- Silk ribbons
- Strong glue
- Mirrored tile
- Gloves to protect your hands
- Tapered candles

First, incise segments of the silk ribbon to fit in a twirl around each stem glass starting from the brim right to the pedestal of the stem. Using glue, slowly stick the ribbon outside of the rim, and swathe it all around the goblet segment and the stem, finishing on the bottom underneath the goblet. Once the glue is totally dry, carefully rotate the stem glasses upside down on top of the mirrored tile. To make it more interesting, organize the glasses in such a way in differing heights. Ensure that the part of rim where the ribbon starts is in front of the centerpiece. Use glue to stick the rims of the stem glasses to the mirror tile and aerate thoroughly. Lastly, put the candles on top of the upside down stem glasses.
