Etched out from Uttar Pradesh in the year 2000, Uttarakhand or Uttaranchal is known as the 'Abode of Gods.' It is bestowed with beautiful temples, glorious glaciers, snow-capped mountains and the world-famous valley of flowers. Tourism in Uttarakhand is also preferable for the fact that it includes almost everything for everyone. Although the place can be visited round the year, the best time to explore the destination would be between April to June or September to Mid-November because of the favourable weather conditions.
Following are some of the major attractions of Uttarakhand travel:
Mussoorie: Extolled as the Queen of hills, Mussoorie is a popular summer retreat in India. Nestled at the foothills of majestic Himalayas, the hill station derives its name from the plants of Mansoor, which are found in abundance. The Mall which extends from Cloud's end in the west to the Rockville in the east is a famous tourist spot in Mussoorie. You can also enjoy the rope-way to Gun Hill which is the highest peak of Mussoorie. The hill top gives a panoramic view of Himalayan ranges.
Gangotri Glacier: It is a well-known glacier in Garhwal Himalayas, located in Uttarkashi district. The glacier lies within a span of 28 km and terminates at Gaumukh. It is not just a single valley glacier but a combination of several other glaciers that joins it to form a huge mass of ice. The glacier is easily approachable through well maintained roads.
Valley of flowers: Snuggled high in Western Himalayas, Valley of flowers has been recently declared as the World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is one of the natural wonders of the world and falls under the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. During the rains, the entire valley is transformed into a natural garden with all kinds of endemic Alpine flowers. Well preserved as a National Park, Valley of flowers homes many endangered species like Asiatic black bear, snow leopard, brown bear and blue sheep. The gentleness of the flowers well espoused with the rugged mountains of Nanda Devi National Park attracts many ebullient trekkers and hikers to the valley.
Dehradun: Uttarakhand Tourism is incomplete without a visit to Dehradun. The capital city of Uttarakhand is the entryway to hill stations like Mussoorie and the pilgrimage spots like Haridwar and Rishikesh. There are several places to see in Dehradun like Robber's cave, Rajaji National Park, Tapkeshwar Temple and Sahastradhara.
Almora: An exotic place to visualise the beauty of snow clad mountains. Almora is also the birthplace of the famous Hindi poet Sumitra Nandan Pant. Govind Vallabh Pant Museum, Bright End corner, Simtola, Kasar Devi Temple and Nanda Devi Temple are some of the major attractions of Almora. The famous Deer Park is an ideal place for a leisure walk where you can also spot animals like deer, leopard and black bear, strolling amongst the lush green pine trees.
So, no doubt, Tourism in Uttarakhand is getting popular these days and travellers are swarming from all across the globe to explore its beauty.
