Not many people like cleaning, especially not gas grill maintenance when the alternative is sitting around with family and friends after having a good feast. We’ve all been through the following scenario at some stage or the other. You call people over for a big barbeque feast on a pristine summer’s day. You spend a fair amount of time cooking up a storm, and eventually get your chance to sit down with friends and family and enjoy a scrumptious meal. Hours pass by and then you’re too tired to do anything else, so the grill just remains as you left it until the next day, or worse yet, until the next time you use it.
Neglecting gas grill maintenance can lead to reduced performance and problems such as uneven heat, lower temperatures and even food sticking to the grates. The job isn’t difficult at all, but it needs to be done in a timely fashion. Just like leaving dishes in the sink till the next day, the longer you delay the longer it will take you to get it done the next time. Indeed, the most important aspect of gas grilling is maintenance.
There are a few simple tips you can follow to ensure you clean your grill and extend its peak performance. The first thing you need to do is take a paper towel with either a glass cleaner or stainless steel cleaner, depending on the lid of the grill, and wipe the outside lid. Stainless steel lids are the most common and you can obtain the optimal result using a microfiber cloth and buffing along the grain. The next step in gas grill maintenance is cleaning the side tables, again using a microfiber cloth with a stainless steel cleaner and buffing with the grain. If the tables are made of plastic, make sure you only use warm water and a gentle detergent instead. Most importantly, you need to clean the grill’s cook box. The best time to do it is as soon as you finish grilling and it has cooled down. You can do this with a grill brush, brushing off all the debris and grease into the tray at the bottom.
If you take as much interest in gas grill maintenance as you do in grilling itself, you can ensure that every experience is a great one for a long time indeed.
