As is the case with most things, Grills need to be maintained properly if you want them to work properly and serve you for years to come. Here is a complete maintenance plan for your grill so you continue to cook up delicious barbequed food using it for years and years to come. You also get your money's worth this way.
There are three items that you will need as the cleaning equipment for your beloved grill: a clean piece of cloth, some cooking oil and a brush. The main areas in your grill that need to be cleaned well are the cooking grates and the burner. Heat the grill for around 10 minutes and then brush it thoroughly to remove any unwanted substances that might be present from earlier usage. After the grill cools down, spray some cooking oil on the cooking grates and then wipe it using a kitchen rag soaked in warm soapy water. Wipe clean using another kitchen cloth after this and you will have yourself a grill that is ready for use. A word of caution here though- be careful not to get hurt while cleaning the skewers that have sharp ends. Follow this same process after cooking and you will have a perfectly clean grill!
The second part of your grill that needs maintenance is the burner. Use a brush to ensure that dust and small food particles don't clog the burner and hamper its working. Besides the cooking grates and the burners, clean the area that the charcoal is burnt in during grilling. You could simply use a brush for this purpose after throwing away the charcoal and the ash. Brush it thoroughly, though, to ensure that there are no remains left.
Apart from the above cleaning which is important every time you use the grill, cleaning your grill with a plastic scrubber and mild soap once in a while will enhance its overall hygiene. This could be done once in every three months. Keeping your grill covered at all times that it not in use will aid its maintenance by keeping it safe from dust and exposure. One could use a thick plastic cover for this purpose. Rusting of the grill is another thing you could avoid by keeping it well-covered. Flies or mosquitoes that may be present around the area you use for storing your grill will also get blocked out due to a grill cover.
Maintain the cleaning parts too by soaking the brush in warm soapy water after use and drying it out properly so the brush is able to clean well.
Grills are a wonderful cooking aid that can help you create delicious and mouthwatering dishes. But in order to maintain the right flavor, you need to ensure that the grill you use is clean. This is also important from the perspective of health and hygiene besides just flavor. Following the simple maintenance routine that has been explained above will help you maintain health, hygiene and flavor in your cooking.
