The name Palace on Wheels was first introduced in 1982. A new meter gauge air conditioned Palace on Wheel was introduced in 1990. In 1995 a new broad gauge Palace on Wheels was introduced and has been running successfully since then.
The journey on Palace on wheels takes the travelers back to the glorious era of Rajputs and Mughals. The majestic ride of 7 nights and 8 days allure the visitors through the ravishing sate of Rajasthan where they can encounter the vivid cities of Rajasthan like Jaipur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Chittorgarh, Jodhpur, Bharatpur wildlife sanctuary and finally culminates at the Agra by visiting the elegant Taj, one among the Seven Wonders of the World. As the train moves along the different destinations it crisscrosses through various places that showcases the esteem Rajput generosity amidst its fortresses, places, monuments and havelis.
This special train is well equipped with all the modern services and amenities that one can imagine or think of. The décor of train coaches is a blend of regal past of royal Rajasthan while the state of art facilities marked the modern affluence and exuberance. The 14 coaches of the train are named after former princely states of Rajasthan decked with carved furniture, splendid paintings, elegant handicrafts and motifs that will traverse back you the golden era of Rajasthan. Palace on Wheels departs every Wednesday from Delhi Cantonment Railway Station from September to April.
