Venice, Italy/2011 – Andromeda presents Surround Me, a brand new collection in which, for the very first time, both the Murano glass and the carved Venetian mirror are used simoultaneously in the same unique, exclusive object, where the ancient hand-made Murano glass tradition is combined with the modern quality of the artistic research: a combination that has become the real trademark for the whole Andromeda production. More than a mirror, more than a source of light, Surround Me takes this name from its own ability to magnify and amplify the reality of the world around us, being at the same time both the reflection and the light of an ambience in a literal, wise fusion of geometric lines and elegant decorations.
The Collection & The Launch
Born in 2011 and designed in house, the Surround me collection is initially suggested in 7 colors (Frida, Rosalba, Tamara, Marguerite, Diane, Artemisia, Tina): each name recalls a woman who achieved great importance in the Art history, an homage to the female genius and to the importance of women’s role in humanity’s artistic evolution – a factor that has always been present in Andromeda’s mission. The collection is also suggested in 7 models: dimensions of each model have been set on numbers taken from the Fibonacci sequence (which has been graphically recalled on the collection’s catalogue, too): a tribute to the idea of beauty intended as numerical proportion used for the construction of more harmonious spaces/worlds. Furthermore, Andromeda suggests 6 exclusive engravings that may be carved into the mirrors. Like every Andromeda collection, each piece from the Surround Me collection can be designed and custom made according to the space for which it is intended.
The collection launch will take place simultaneously worldwide, through Andromeda’s representatives.
Andromeda
Andromeda is one of the world’s leading brands in luxury custom, hand-made glass lighting design.
Set up in Murano in 1972, Andromeda brings a sense of modernity through its original interpretation of aesthetic concepts. In 2005, Vecchi sets a new and unprecedented standard in the Italian industry and offers Andromeda’s creative direction to Artist Michela Vianello. On October 2nd 2008, the Eurispes research centre placed Andromeda amongst Italy's 100 most innovative companies, including it in the 3rd report on Italian Excellence.
David Chipperfield, Pierre Yves Rochon, Imaad Rahmouni, Tobia Scarpa, Norman Foster and Artist Julian Schnabel are just a few of the names Andromeda worked with over the years.
