In the past few years, the number of music festivals happening in and around London has gone through the roof, so if you fancy seeing some top class musical entertainment in a laid back outdoor environment, you are literally spoiled for choice. It does not matter what your music taste is, there is sure to be a festival for you. We have listed some of the best ones here.
Field Day
Field Day, in the heart of trendy East London, has established itself as the top underground music festival in London. This year, the festival has a diverse line up that includes The Coral, John Cale, Sun Ra, and Faust.
The Reading Festival
The Reading Festival, held just outside London, is the longest running festival in the UK, having started as a blues and jazz festival in the early 1960s. Nowadays, it is one of the biggest mainstream rock and pop festivals in Europe, with hundreds of well known rock bands over several stages. This years festival could well be the best to date, featuring Pete Doherty, The Strokes, and Pulp.
The Camden Crawl
Ever since the heady days of Britpop, Camden has been the hub of the London music business, thanks to a high concentration of venues and strong public transport links. Taking place over the May Day Bank Holiday, the Camden Crawl is now a firmly established fixture on the festival calendar, with a huge number of performers playing across the borough. The festival not only gives you a chance to see famous faces in smaller than usual venues, it is also a superb opportunity to check out some great new acts at an early stage. You might even catch a secret show by a famous performer, and these are often only announced on the day of the event.
Lovebox
Originally, this was a very DJ culture orientated event, but these days it has evolved into more of an all round music festival. This years event featured The Wombats, Groove Armada, Snoop Dogg, and 2 Many DJs, and the 2012 festival is already shaping up to be the biggest and best yet.
Guilfest
If you are looking for a festival for the whole family, Guilfest could well be the one to go for. As well as offering up some top notch musical entertainment, there are many attractions for the kids such as clowns, fire shows, and bouncy castles.
