If it were not for electronics, the world would not operate as efficiently as it does today. Contained in all the electronic devices you possess and use on a daily basis, are transistors and tiny circuit boards. It seems like the amount of electronic devices that look like computers is increasing, since they have a lot of the same features. Your notebook memory is basically the equivalent memory employed in a myriad of other electronic equipment like MP3 players and cell phones. A lot of equipment needs memory to improve the device.

The memory in laptop and desktop computers functions on a storage tier. When you initially boot up your PC it must access the Read-Only Memory (ROM); this is kept in the permanent storage. The Basic Input/Output System, or the BIOS, is the second application that loads. In the last step, the Operating System (OS) opens. Without revealing perplexing details about the reason it draws from one storage area and not from the other, or the reason one is a read only but you save to another, you should be aware that generic memory functions are similar to those used by your desktop computers.

Electronics that use memory do so because it allows them to bring up information rapidly and have faster speed. The settings and preferences for your stereo are remembered by your car by using memory. Your cellular phone and PDA applies memory for delivering email, looking up information online, and making a calendar for necessary details. They might not function as fast or do everything that desktop computers do, but they still use some of the similar technology.

Nowadays, televisions must have memory to function properly. More and more satellite and cable TV providers include digital recording services and a function that allows you to pause live television. Both of these actions need memory, but one needs long term and the other one needs short term for quick access. The more quickly a device can access its memory, the speedier that device will be.

Consider the number of electronics you use every day and you'll see how significant they are in our society. We would not be able to function nearly as efficiently if this technology did not exist. Memory in some form is used by almost every piece of electronic gadgetry that we own. View them as a slightly different type of computer helping us to live our lives more efficiently.
