Lifewood, which now utilizes revolutionary StayFlat technology to produce solid timber flooring, was originally one of the first movers in the bamboo flooring industry. Back then, solid timber was their competition. Having spent many years in the flooring industry, Lifewood was discovering that its customers were becoming increasingly frustrated with the shortcomings of solid wood flooring. It was unstable, buckling from the pressure of daily use and warping due to varying environmental conditions. And given that it was a natural product, it was prone to inconsistency in appearance from variations in color and texture.
Given all of these problems, bamboo seemed like a viable alternative, given that it is a very durable product which would sustain the strain of repeated use. In addition, bamboo is a very fast grower, allowing it to be sustainably harvested in great numbers. Knowing this, Lifewood decided to bypass the solid timber market in favor of bamboo.
But regardless of all the benefits of bamboo flooring, there was a character to solid hardwood flooring which bamboo simply could not replicate. Therfore, Lifewood decided to research the possibility of combining the structural benefits of bamboo with the look of traditional timber flooring. The result of this work is a new type of solid hardwood flooring which is exceptionally stable. This is due to Lifewood's StayFlat technology, which creates a solid wood floorboard from three separate layers. Using this cross-engineered approach, the floorboard maintains its integrity even under considerable pressure while reducing waste and cost by saving the premium wood solely for the top layer.
Since perfecting this technology, Lifewood has gone on to tailor its product to appeal to the varying tastes of its consumers. There are now six different timber flooring options: Golden Mahogany, Jarrah, Marri, Rose Jarrah, West Australian Blackbutt, and West Australian Walnut. Customers can choose to purchase their flooring per-finished, saving both time and money since the floor can be used immediately. And although the flooring has been engineered to be structurally sound, all purchases also come with a local lifetime warranty.
And given the considerable environmental impact flooring companies have due to their timber consumption, Lifewood has been committed to be as sustainable as possible. They do not import any of their wood, ensuring that none of it could possibly be logged illegally. Indeed, Lifewood plants a tree for every square meter of flooring purchased, effectively replacing what they have taken. And due to the very nature of its cross-engineered approach, the floorboards can utilize less scarce wood for the two lower unseen layers.
With all of the logistics now in place, Lifewood began selling their new product in Australia last month. And for customers outside of Australia who desire to try this product, Lifewood will begin exporting its flooring products later this year.
