Earning a degree in business is the most viable way for a person to learn more about the many facets of running a business. Those who are interested in pursuing a business degree are often surprised by the many different degree options that are available. In each of these degree programs, students will participate in courses that cover business finance, accounting, marketing and communication. However, the level of study that a student selects will influence how long it takes to complete their degree as well as the types of knowledge they will acquire. To help prospective students choose the right business degree program to suit their goals, the following guide will help explain the differences between the levels of study for a degree in business.
Vocational Degree Programs
A vocational degree program can offer students a fast way to earn a degree or certificate in business. Generally, vocational degree programs can be completed within a few months to two years. This type of degree program will often focus more on hands-on training than classroom lectures. For example, students who participate in a vocational business degree program may form groups to work on mock projects that cover real-life business scenarios. Although many vocational programs only enable a student to earn a certificate, there are several reputable vocational programs that can lead to a degree within about two years such as a business administration associates degree program .
Undergraduate Level of Study
Students who prefer to earn a degree may need to consider a program at the undergraduate level of study. At this level of study, there are two types of degrees that can be earned. An associate degree will generally take about two years to complete and can lay the groundwork for further study. In some instances, a business administration associates degree program may be all that a student needs to reach their academic and career goals. If a student decides to continue their education, then they will want to earn a bachelor degree. This is a 4-year degree that proves that a student has obtained all of the knowledge required to be a professional within their field of study. A business bachelors degree program will require a student to take specific courses that pertain to managing a business. In addition to business courses, an undergraduate degree program may also require students to take other classes, such as foreign language, that can enhance their understanding of the business field.
Graduate Degree Programs
Those who develop a significant interest in business may decide to pursue higher education to learn more about business management. To be eligible to apply for a graduate degree, most students must have already completed a business bachelors degree program that has laid the groundwork for their future courses. Generally, a master degree in business will take another two years to complete while a PhD will take up to seven. During a graduate degree program, students must complete various research projects and presentations that demonstrate their skills within the business field. Often, they must make a significant contribution within the business field to be eligible for enrollment in these programs. Although graduate degree programs can be rewarding, an associate or bachelor degree in business is usually all that is needed to further a person’s goals.
