For the first time in eighteen years, rocker Lenny Kravitz has scheduled performances in Australia. Kravitz is not coming alone; it has been announced that Wolfmother and The Cranberries will be joining him for his performances around Australia. The tour will take place in March 2012 and will include concerts in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Wollongong and Perth.
About Wolfmother
The Sydney band Wolfmother formed in 2000, but it has become well-known for its 1970s rock music sound. The band reached an international audience in 2005 when it released its eponymous debut album. In 2008, two of Wolfmother's members left the band in response to reported "irreconcilable differences," but a new line-up was formed in time to begin recording a second album in March of 2009. In the summer of 2011, Wolfmother began a European tour in which they released several new tracks. Wolfmother intends to release these rock songs on its third album early this year, and this spring's performances will likely feature some of their newest work. Rumoured track titles for the upcoming album and tour include "Every Day/Drone on the Beach," "Meridian" and "Year of the Dragon."
About The Cranberries
Best known for '90s alt-rock hits such as "Zombie" and "Ode to My Family," The Cranberries formed in Limerick, Ireland in 1989. Lead vocalist Delores O'Riordan joined the group less than a year later, and has led the band through the release of their eight top-20 singles. The Cranberries continued to record rock music and tour internationally through 2003, but their work in this century has not garnered the attention of their 1990s material. In 2004 The Cranberries separated to begin work on independent musical projects. The band reunited in 2009 for a tour across the United States, Canada, Europe and Latin America. Though it has been more than a decade since they recorded their last album, The Cranberries are now scheduled to release a record in February of this year. The track list for this album, titled Roses, has been released and includes titles such as "Tomorrow," "Astral Projection" and "Schizophrenic Playboy." Those in attendance for The Cranberries' performances this March are sure to hear some of this new material.
About Lenny Kravitz
Headliner Lenny Kravitz released his debut album in 1989 and went on to record four hit records over the course of the '90s. His love for the psychedelic rock music of the '70s and the funk and soul of '60s R&B inspired hits like "It Ain't Over Til It's Over" and a cover of "American Woman." Though his more recent work hasn't had the overwhelming commercial success of his first five albums, Kravtiz has remained active throughout the last decade. He has collaborated with artists such as Jay-Z, toured with U2 and made an appearance in the 2009 film Precious. In August of last year, Kravitz released his ninth record, Blank and White America, and he will spend 2012 on tour promoting his new release. The tracks most likely to make an appearance on the road include "Push," "Super Love," "Come On Get It" and the album's title track.
The Australian leg of Kravitz's tour will likely be an opportunity to hear new material from Kravitz and fellow '90s hit makers The Cranberries as well as the retro-sounding but newer act Wolfmother. Tickets for each of the six scheduled Australia performances are currently on sale.
