A lot people seem to find it hard to lose leg fat. Whether it's your thighs or your calves, the fat just seems to stick to some area of your lower body and doesn't let go.

No matter what kind of leg exercise program you are looking for, the instructors are going to put you through a typical general lower body workout circuit doing one set on each machine for twelve reps and so on. There are some functional leg exercises that can be done at home with little or no equipment. Chief among these are lunges and calf raises. Think about what happens when your legs get tired. You can't walk or run as fast. You can't turn as fast. You can't even move your upper body as fast.

Probably the most well-known leg exercise is the lunge. In this exercise, you will usually hold a set of dumbbells on each arm. With your feet together, you will lunge forward with one leg while the other holds the position. Squat is a great leg exercise perfect in building muscle mass in the upper leg area. Remember that if there is only one kind of exercise that you can do for your legs, squats would be the best exercises to execute. There are a lot of ways to execute this leg exercise. One of the most popular pieces of leg exercise equipment available today is leg press machines. These types of machines have several different forms namely the diagonal leg press machine, the sled type leg press machine, the horizontal leg press machine, the seated press machine, the lever seated leg press machine and finally the 45 degree leg press machine.

Place a barbell on your shoulders like you would if you were doing Barbell Squats. Step up onto a flat bench with your left leg. Then step up with your right leg so you are now standing on the bench. Step down with your left leg, then your right leg. Knee exercises are recommended for people who want something a little less vigorous to strengthen their knees. The following exercise is excellent for those suffering from chondromalacia patella that occur due to the roughening of the cartilage underneath the knee cap because the bones do not sit properly under the V of the knee joint. Place your hands on your hips or hold them out in front of you, or out to the side. SLOWLY, step down with your left foot & LIGHTLY touch the floor with your toes & the ball of the foot (keep your heel off the ground).

Leg extensions are done on a leg extension machine by hooking the feet beneath the roller pad and extending the legs outward, pressing up the desired weight in the process. This exercise is particularly good at isolating the quadriceps. While the mentioned exercises mostly focus on the quads, it's important to develop your calves as well. A good exercise is the standing calf raise. You'll find a machine in which you hold with a handle and your calf is isolate in a weight.
