The munching sound while eating, putting the left out particles around the plate and making sounds with the spoons are some of the uncivilized acts that many people do when sit for having their meal. When it comes to kids, then hat could be more embarrassing than they are fighting while having their meal in the dining table, that too when you have invited some guests at your home. This is not any out of the world scenario for many parents. On the other hand, children also cannot be scolded always for such kind of acts because they do not understand the value of manners.

It is the duty of the parents to teach their kids some manners, especially table manners when they sit to have their meal. Table manners show how much a person is disciplined and it also leaves a deeper impression on others. It also gives a positive feeling to the others who are sitting with you to grab their meal. In the case of kids, it is quite natural and acceptable that they are unaware of the manners until and unless anybody teaches them.

Parents can opt for some tips to teach their kids some of the important table manners:

1. Tell your kids that they are growing up and only babies eat with fingers, therefore, they should eat with fork and spoon. This is better if kids are taught this at a very young age o that they can grab the instructions well.

2. Tell your kids to ask for anything if they need when they are at the dinner table and they should not reach across the table. The proper way to pass food is counterclockwise. Reaching across the table reflects uncivilization. Also tell them to ask for food with a polite tone.

3. Tell your kids strictly to chew with a closed mouth. Eating with an open mouth often disturbs others and gives a very dirty impression. In fact, it makes others feel difficult to swallow their food.

4. Another bad manner is to stuff mouth with food. If kids do that, there are ample chances that the food gets stuck in the throat. So, it is wise to avoid such habits.

5. Ask them to place a napkin on their lap after being seated at the dinner table. Also tell them to use it to softly wipe or pat their mouth. Before drinking water from a glass, ask them to pat their mouth with the napkin.

6. Teach your children not to make any kind of discourteous comment about any, even if they do not like the food at all. It may hurt the person’s feelings who has prepared it.

7. Teach your children to say “Thank you” with a smile on their face when they are served anything. This is way to appreciate a person serving the food.

8. Teach them not to hog on to the food like animals, rather to eat them slowly and take a time of 5 seconds each time they swallow something.

9. Tell them not to pick any particle out of their teeth. If they feel very uncomfortable with it, then excuse themselves and go to the restroom to pick it
In this way, children can easily be taught how to maintain manners at the dinner table. However, do not forget to explain them every step so as to make them clear to your kids.
