Lead zinc is one of the earlier metals that are abstracted from lead zinc ore by human. Lead zinc is widely applied in electrical, machinery, military, metallurgical, chemical, and light industry, as well as pharmaceutical industry, etc. Besides, lead metal is having many purposes or uses in nuclear, petroleum industry, and so on. There are 11 kinds of plumbing minerals in lead zinc ores, in which zinc industry minerals are 6 types, galena and blende are the most important ones.
Chemical formula of galena is PbS, crystal structure is cubic system, sulfion is closely packed as cube, lead ion is being filled in the gap of all octahedrons. Fresh galena surface is of hydrophobicity, unoxidized galena is easy to flotation, after the surface is being oxidized, and floatability is reduced. Xanthate and aerofloat are the typical collectors for galena, Xanthate can cause chemical absorption occur on the surface of galena, buvlthv and 2-ethylamine dithiocarbamate are also common used collectors, thereinto, ammonium dibutyl dithiophosphate has selective collection effect on galena. Dichromate is the effective inhibitor of galena, but for the galena that is being activated by Cu2+, the braking effect is reduced. Galena which is braked by dichromate, is hard to be activated, it can be activated by dealing with sodium chloride in hydrochloric acid or acid medium.
Cyanide cannot inhibit its flotation; sodium chloride is very sensitive to the floatability of galena. Excess sulfion can inhibit the flotation of galena; Combination of sulfur dioxide, sulphurous acid and its salt, lime, zinc sulfate or with other agents can inhibit the flotation of galena. The common collectors applied in lead and zinc ore are: Xanthate series include xanthate, xanthate esters, etc. Sulfur-nitrogen series, such as 2-ethylamine dithiocarbamate, which ability of collecting xanthate is stronger. It has strong ability of collecting lead and copper pyrite ores while the ability of collecting pyrite is relatively weak, with good selectiveness and fast flotation, but its usage is less than xanthate.
