However, tourists are allowed to visit the villages of Dah and Hanu only. Being on lower altitude Dhahanu is warmer than Leh. Their cultural and religious practices are totally different from the rest of Ladakh. Bon-Chos believe in an ancient Pre-Buddhist animist religion known as "Bon-Chos".

Central Ladakh: This is a very attractive area with plenty of Monasteries and villages. The major attractions are the nine storey Palace (Leh), the Palace Museum of Stok, Hemis, Thiksey, Chemrey, Phyang, Lamayuru, Spituk, Ridzong, Alchi Monasteries and villages of Basgo, Nimoo, Sanskar etc. This is very short information given above.

Buddhist Monasteries: Buddhist monasteries are the most unique feature of Ladakh. The Hemis monastery is the largest monastery of Ladakh with an exquisite painting of Lord Buddha, displayed once in 2 yrs. Then, there is the Shey monastery with a gold plated copper statue of Buddha. Alchi, Lamayuru, Likir, Spituk, Thikse, Stakana, Sankar, etc are some of the other popular monasteries in Ladakh.

Wildlife: Ladakh is home to some of the most exotic wildlife species. Several flowering plants, a dozen important mammals and over a hundred species of birds are found here in this rugged terrain. Thriving on the minimal vegetation, poor shelter, rocky terrain and bitter cold are the wild animals like Yak, Nyan, Urial, Churu, Ibex, Snow Leopard, Bharal, etc. Ladakh also plays host to a number of resident as well as migratory birds.

Leh Mosque: It was constructed under the threat of military action by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb which prompted King Deldan Namgyal to build the mosque in 1661. Leh Mosque, in the main Bazaar, is an architectural beauty. The mosque is green and white in color and reflects a mixture of Islamic and Tibetan architecture and can accommodate more than 500 people. The mosque is open only to men.
