If you are looking to maximize your yield look no further then the combination of LED grow lights and sea of green growing. Sea of green growing basically consists of harvesting early with many plants packed tightly together. LED grow lights are perfect for sea of green growing as they can be placed directly above the plants with no risk of burning the colas.
There are many different methods of growing plants. The most traditional being soil growth; however, if you are limited in space the yield tends to be poor. The advantages of using soil to grow is that it is very simple to setup and requires little maintenance. Next there is hydroponics. Hydroponics basically consists of growing your plants in water that contains all the nutrients the plants need. This greatly increase your yield per square foot. Whether you are growing vegetables or something else if you want to improve your yield try out hydroponics; although, it does require quite a bit more care and attention then soil growing. One type of hydroponics grow is called the sea of green method. It requires you to place your plants closely together, about 1 per square foot, and harvest early. In return you will get the most bang possible for a small space.
The sea of green method requires very little time between crops and can be used to maintain a constant source of fresh fruits and vegetables. It will help you pay for electricity and other expenses on a regular biases instead of having a large source of income every couple of months. To start off with seedlings you need to have about 4 per square foot. As the plants mature this will be reduced to 1 a square foot. In the sea of green method the colas are where most of the production of the plants comes from as the bottom branches will not produce that much yield due to the lack of light. The sea of green method creates what is called a green canopy trapping most of the light at the top of the plants. Below this level very little light will be able to get past. Nylon poultry fencing can be used to support the enormous weights of the colas. The sea of green method comes from Holland. You can expect a harvest every 45-60 days. Trim the bottom of your branches often to increase air flow and reduce the energy the plants spend on non productive leaves.
LED grow lights work perfect with the sea of green method for several reasons. First off LED can cut your electrical bill in three when compared to HPS grow lights. This can save you significant money over the course of a year. Secondly LED grow lights completely eliminate the heat issue and will not burn the top of your plants. This means that you can place the LEDs directly above your plants and enables you to generate more light energy per square foot then you would obtain using HPS.
