If you are looking for digital camera battery UK, you must know that there are a lot of providers in the country offering the services. Camera batteries consume power at an alarming rate. You can save power by turning off the LCD display while transferring the images to a PC or TV for viewing. The batteries for digital cameras are available in all shapes and sizes, although the AA format is the most common. The conventional alkaline AA batteries should be relied upon only during emergencies. These are not enough for a digital camera which consumes lots of power.
An ordinary alkaline AA battery consumes 2.4 Ah (ampere hours) which means that it can offer 1.2A for a couple of hours before going bust. However, such cell capacities are ideal for low current applications. The camera battery for rechargeable cells is better for handling the high output current capacities that a digital camera requires. These are generally cost effective solutions. The batteries are available in different types of families including:
Nickel Cadmium (NiCd): This is among the most robust and widely available rechargeable battery which is available for 700 charging and discharging cycles. They lose around 1% of their power a day when not being used and badly suffer from memory effects. Gas bubbles tend to accumulate on the cell plates of the battery that has been discharged partially before recharging. This reduces the plate area inside the battery and affects its overall capacity.
Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH): This is ideal for 500 to 1000 charge or discharge cycles. The NiMH batteries provide 40% increased capacity than the NiCDs, although they are available at a considerable price. Their shelf life is a little reduced than the NiCDs, but they win in that they are not susceptible to the effect of losing out on memory.
Lithium Ion (Li-ion): These batteries offer twice the capacity of an identically sized NiMH battery, and are unique for 500 charge and discharge cycles. However, their uniqueness lies in the fact that they need a special charger and are usually more costly than other types of digital camera batteries. They win in that they have a prolonged shelf life which may go up to a decade. Hence, they are ideal for emergency purposes.
Zinc Air Batteries: These batteries have been in use for years and find practical usage in pagers and hearing aids, thanks to their lightness and high energy density. With mechanical and electrical enhancements, they have been adapted technologically in mobile electronic systems like digital cameras. The zinc air batteries have the same chemical composition as alkaline batteries. However, here, a narrow carbon electrode catalyzes oxygen from the air to react with zinc. This enhances the energy which makes zinc air batteries highly desirable.
