Melbourne has a large number of martial arts facilities and out of these, Taekwondo is getting popularised very fast. It is very common to see martial arts institutes in Melbourne as the second most popular language spoken at home is Chinese, making it quite clear that Melbourne is quite heavily populated by Asians.
Melbourne, being the second most popular city in Australia as well as being the capital of the country is the cultural hotspot in Australia. It is an International culture centre and its culture has been influenced by the native culture of most of its inhabitants. This is why it is not surprising that the city of Melbourne is home to many different types of sports from cricket, soccer, rugby to the more Asian culture influenced martial arts. One of the most popular Melbourne martial arts is the Korean fighting technique called the Taekwondo. Taekwondo is a composite word which is made up from three small words in Korean language, “tae” meaning: to strike with foot, “kwon” meaning: to strike with the fist and “do” meaning: path. This is why it is also written as tae-kwon-do which in its literal translation means the path of the hands and feet.

It is very common to see martial arts institutes in Melbourne as the second most popular language spoken at home is Chinese, making it quite clear that Melbourne is quite heavily populated by Asians. Martial arts being a part of the central Asian culture, it is understandable that they would be practitioners of martial arts wherever they form a community. This is why the Melbourne martial arts centres developed.

When you wish to join a martial art discipline, you have to choose among the disciplines available to you and figure out the most fitting one for you. If such a comparison needs to be made between tae-kwon-do (TKD) and kickboxing, then TKD is the clear winner as tae-kwon-do is practiced by a large community, even larger than kickboxing and has even made its way into the Olympic Games. Tae-kwon-do is a very prestigious form of contact sports and is governed by the world taekwondo federation (WTF). This is the governing body which sets the rules for the Olympic sparring as well as the sparring rules for any tae-kwon-do event organized under the WTF.

The standard rules for taekwondo states that the sparring will occur within an area of 8 meter square. The winning score is determined by several factors; you can win by knocking out your opponent or by scoring more points than your opponent. Every single match consists of three rounds of combat with a minute’s break in between each round.

It does not require one to practice martial arts only to take part in one of the sporting events. It is also a great practice to keep you in shape and to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The endorphin rush from the physical activities also helps control frustration and mental anxiety. Practicing martial arts provides the practitioner with the opportunity to keep them healthy while doing something enjoyable. It also helps keep the mind calm and relaxed and ultimately boosts the productivity of the person practicing the martial art. Taekwondo is a great martial arts style to learn as it is taught in plenty of locations and is the best for keeping you in healthy shape.
